Re: Wegmans: No new pharmacies?

Wegman's evidently has learned what Stater, Schnucks, Raleys, and a handfull of other small grocers have learned: pharmacy is no longer profitable for grocers in some locations. I think some of the grocers that are trying to keep their pharmacies going have opted to stop accepting certain insurance...

Re: Wegmans: No new pharmacies?

COVID-19 has devastated pharnacies. People avoid going to pharmacies now. Mail order is king. They are no longer attracting customers into grocery stores as much. It may be a less worthy deal, but I doubt this outbreak had any effect on these decisions. At that I do not see any plans to close exist...

Wegmans: No new pharmacies?

Here's something peculiar I've noticed about Wegmans: as of late, the chain seems to have reversed on opening pharmacy units within their stores. I did think for a moment it was mostly based on distribution issues, as Virginia Beach and the North Carolina locations are quite the distance from their ...

Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

From what I've seen, Wegmans has dismantled all their self serve bars for the time being. Out of these, only the mediterranean bar has made a return, now being manned by those working in the cheese department. Another bar had been repurposed into a stand for their new "Danny's Made in Buffalo W...

Re: Favorite supermarket interior? (1995-present)

While there are many choices I'd consider from what I've seen, my favorite design meeting this criteria easily has to be Harris Teeter's Romanesque ( http://www.bciva.com/portfolio-item/harris-teeter-251-gainesville/ ) design, used by the chain for much of the 2000s. There were multiple variations d...

Albertsons closing MD Safeway distribution center

https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2020/01/30/safeway-parent-will-lay-off-520-in-prince-george-s.html?iana=hpmvp_wash_news_headline What could this move mean for Safeway's east coast operations? As Acme is taking charge I assume that chain would be unfazed, but who knows what'll happen to ...

Re: UNFI Makes Deals for 13 Shoppers Stores; 4 More to Close

This is quite a lot of news - so I'll state my opinion here. The closing round was certainly not well planned by UNFI, beginning these sales before the holiday season and ineffectively alerting employees. For following closings, they should plan the procedures better. While it seems Shoppers may be ...

Re: Target using lowercase "target" on full-scale stores

This location is one that never even got a Pfresh remodel. Interesting question- I wonder if Target has included new PFresh sections lately within their remodel spree. Stores near me that were remodeled a couple of years ago received the bulleye logo only. The word Target was removed. Then in recen...

Re: Target using lowercase "target" on full-scale stores

A recent drive through Houston highways shows that many of the roadside signage has changed to the new lower case lettering. Frankly, I'm torn about the retiring of the SuperTarget name--the PFresh stuff has diluted that, and as we know, not all grocery stores are created equal... They've been upda...

Re: Glass enclosed pharmacies

I have not seen any examples of enclosed pharmacies in NoVA. I've only seen certain stores like Giant-MD and Rite Aid have higher counters that make it harder to reach the pharmacy stock. The Walmart pharmacy of the future prototype will feature a fully enclosed pharmacy where drugs are dispensed vi...
