Re: Target to close 11 stores before year end
The problem I have with Target is so often I just can't get what I need there. I would like to shop there. I find the store to be clean and orderly. I am indifferent regarding their employees. I have had mixed experiences and feel in the past decade Target's employee attitude has declined and Wal M...

Re: Louisiana Flood Damage
I know Central, LA got flooded, wonder how the Oak Point Fresh Market (former Kroger Greenhouse/Sav-a-Center) did. Also it's surprising that Rouses built a store in Denham Springs again, my records indicate that they took over a National closer to the downtown area but closed it sometime in the mid-...

Re: Breaking: HEB buys 6 Minyard Sun Fresh stores in DFW
I think DFW has a bit better and somewhat tougher competition now than either Houston or San Antonio had during the period that HEB was steamrolling over Albertsons and Kroger in those two markets. Maybe I am wrong. I can't wait to see WinCo vs. HEB. I think between WinCo, the Kroger Marketplaces.....

Re: Integration of Albertsons and Safeway
Are they actually branding the Lucerne milk at Jewel-Osco as "Lucerne by Jewel" now? If so, that's quite interesting. If not, oh well. The current weekly ad online I'm not sure is the same one they have in store but it looks vastly different than the ads I've seen for Albertsons and Randal...

Re: Unusually small Walmart Supercenter
Walmart started to ramp up conversions to Supercenters without increasing the square footage, leading to stores that only have one entrance. I remember seeing a store in Florida like that. The Single Entrance Supercenter is quite common in smaller rural markets. I know of dozens throughout Arkansas...

Re: Breaking: HEB buys 6 Minyard Sun Fresh stores in DFW
As for other cities, I can imagine H-E-B engage in a full scorched-earth war to vanquish its remaining competitors in College Station/Bryan and Austin (Kroger and Randalls respectively) even if it means taking a loss on those markets before they hit Dallas (said article does mention that H-E-B is m...

Re: Breaking: HEB buys 6 Minyard Sun Fresh stores in DFW
I am willing to revisit this topic in one year and I bet that this company will be showing signs of aggression in this market. They' have no place else to grow in Texas. They need to either give up or keep moving forward. This is their last chance in TX before conquering other states. H-E-B had man...

Re: Unusually small Walmart Supercenter
I remember hearing about one Walmart Supercenter in the New Jersey area that was far smaller, described as a "grocery store with TVs" or something like that. Part of the problem is that sometime around the mid-2000s, Walmart started to ramp up conversions to Supercenters without increasing...

Re: Target to close 11 stores before year end
I have found Target to have quite strong grocery pricing in a lot of regions (CA, CO, NV, AZ, UT), as in, as strong as Wal Mart, on packaged goods, historically. In the past year or two I notice their prices on some (not most) items creeping up to Safeway-like levels. Conversely I have gone into so...

I probably did call it back on page 1 or 2 of this topic when I wrote:In any case, I'm pretty sure these stores will not reopen as H-E-B anytime within the next year and definitely not in the next 9 months.
