Re: Kohl's To Open 100 Small Format Stores
I wonder if Kohls is trying to get out of some of the huge stores that you describe. There is plenty of vacant strip mall retail space that Kohls could open these small size stores. The Kohls stores near me are huge two story buildings that are designed like mini versions of mall department stores. ...

Re: Wegman's & Lidl Coming to DC
This was going to be a smaller than usual store much like the one they opened in Brightwood (old Walter Reed area) but a bit bigger than that one and they pulled out when they decided to give up on that experiment and also closed a large number of stores. They also were supposed to open one on the ...

Re: Westfield Says It Is Done With The U.S.
Westfield was an international company and they probably just thought they would bring the practice to the US but of course nobody here recognized it. You make an excellent point about the lack of corporate branding in the US beyond sports stadiums. For me the thing that didn't make any sense was t...

Re: Wegman's & Lidl Coming to DC
More bad news for Safeway. Lidl will be a great addition. And of course so will Wegman's. I'm beginning to think that Albertsons should sell the DC area Safeway stores and be done with it. Albertsons seems to have stopped doing anything to make Safeway any better than its very average self before t...

Re: Wegman's & Lidl Coming to DC
another one in Southeast DC in a long delayed complex in an area that's seen as relatively low income, although it's also near quite a few very middle class shoppers. This the Skyland development along Good Hope Road at Naylor Road and Alabama Avenue, correct? The only grocery in the immediate area...

Re: ACME comes in first in Philadelphia market share ranking
How much integration is there now between Safeway and Acme? It seems that Safeway is being supplied from the Albertsons Denver, PA warehouse. This is after Safeway closed their Upper Marlboro, MD facility in early 2020. If Acme is the stronger operation in the Eastern Division one might think they s...

Re: Walmart Arson Attack By Shoplifters: Total Loss
I wonder if the 10 PM closing at Target is a chain wide thing. Once Target went back to longer hours after things started to reopen in 2020 they were 8 AM to 11 PM in the areas around me. Now they are 8 AM to 10 PM. I don't live in an area that is having the theft and crime problems that have been d...

Re: Another DFW Area Walmart Neighborhood Market To Close
Was Walmart's intent with the Neighborhood Market concept to go full on into grocery? Or was it to provide infill to offer the "super" part when a full Supercenter wasn't feasible for one reason or another. Walmart is able to compete with a full store given the other products they sell. Bu...

Re: Walmart observations
The Wal Mart easily does 4-5 times the business of the Target during most of the week/evenings. Target on weekends probably has about 50% the traffic the Wal Mart has. It is an average performing Wal Mart. That is not a very good performing Target. It didn't even have self checkouts yet last time I...

Re: Southern California UFCW Contract Expiring 3/6/22
Union members will not be able to review the entire contract before voting. Only if it is ratified will the full contract be released. You'll be shocked how little they got. I'd be a firm NO vote for that reason alone. I've voted in several mail in ratification balloting elections and we were alway...
