Re: Short staffed restaurants
Went to Chipotle in far South Reno today... there were 4 employees in the building, one working the counter, and three in the back. The three in the back kept looking at the line and walking away. I finally asked the manager what was going on since there were a bunch of us in line. He said that cor...

Re: Hy-Vee Expands Southeast
The Des Moines Register needs registration. Here's a Tennessean link via Yahoo: https://news.yahoo.com/grocery-chain-making-moves-tennessee-130039285.html They've cancelled plans for a DC near the Twin Cities and slowed the pace of their store openings in that areas. They've cancelled at least on p...

Re: BBQ Holdings: HomeTown, Old Country Buffet
Golden Corral is still going strong...maybe it's just the bad food. Golden Corral remains strong indeed. Ryan's could still be around if it operated as a subsidiary of Buffets, Inc./Ovation separate from other brands. Its locations were constantly successful and well operated before the acquisition...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
IMHO, Publix is waaay overrated. They've had 20 years to battle Kroger in Atlanta and Kroger is still on top. Don't get me wrong, Publix is good. They're just not as godlike as people build them up to be. Kroger being on top in the Atlanta area and Georgia is interesting. It is behind Publix in sup...

Re: Winn Dixie back on expansion/remodel campaign
W-D entered Nashville around 1970 from Louisville and left around 1987/88. They had at half a dozen or more locations when they exited. The pattern was a little odd---they had 2 stores in the Bordeaux area. They also had an awkwardly located one in the Melrose/not quite Green Hills area, so I have ...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
But ultimately there's a cost to this; the SN, for example, asserted that Publix would fail in a market like Texas, that was largely price-driven. Publix could succeed in Texas being price competitive. Texas (especially the Dallas and Houston markets) is way too competitive for Publix. Plus, I'm pr...

Re: Halloween Stores
I am yet to see a quantity of Halloween specialty retail stores open. Chains such as Spirit of Halloween may have failed quickly, and are making smarter decisions if they remain in business.

Re: Winn Dixie back on expansion/remodel campaign
Winn Dixie failed in Nashville, a growing market without tons of competition and that was back in their glory days. The post-Olympic resurgence of Atlanta and the increasing density of inner neighborhoods and suburbs did nothing for WD’s intown Atlanta stores. Publix was the beneficiary. Walmart an...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
I think Publix knows they fit in a market that does not have much more than Kroger and Wal Mart. It is not hard to look upscale next to Kroger (in its current form) and Wal Mart. They have been successful in that type of scenario and will be successful again in Louisville. 6 Meijer Stores aren't go...
