Re: Toys R Us Could Seek Bankruptcy Protection to Deal With Its Crushing Debt
The US division is now preparing to liquidate: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-08/toys-r-us-said-to-be-prepping-liquidation-of-u-s-operations I wonder if Bed Bath and Beyond would try to buy this or part of it, to add to its other peculiar low volume operations. I think they bought ...

Re: Longs Drugs?
Several of the comments in this forum bring up an interesting point - If an acquiring company keeps the original banner name (Longs) but then adds a bunch of parent company paraphernalia (CVS/Target cash registers, packaging, etc), doesn't the customer see through all this? I've always thought acqu...

Re: Kohl's considers adding grocery departments to stores
The locations acquired from Mervyn's are smaller than the ones Kohl's built previously. I'm guessing they have figured out that they can turn a profit with a combination of smaller stores and a robust online store. That allows them to downsize some of their larger locations and monetize the extra sp...

Ask and ye shall receive, my friend.
La Junta, CO - nothing for at least 25 years
Burlington, CO - ditto.
Museum pieces, indeed.

Re: Albertsons to buy (what's left of) RiteAid
Sorry to be the negative nelly here but this transaction is all about giving Cerberus an exit strategy. They are using Rite Aid to back door an IPO....While many of your have presented great ways to the two organizations to work together, the reality will be tons of store closures. I believe babs' ...

Re: Downtown Bethesda Safeway to close
I can't think of much other grocery near the one in the Financial District... also it is a very tiny store. The layout would probably flow a little more normally if the store didn't have a deli and instead had produce over in that space, then the remainder of the space was just standard aisles. The...

Re: Albertsons to buy (what's left of) RiteAid
In the realm of legacy branding, with Rite-Aid being sold in chunks, which buyer gets rights to Thrifty, anyways? I don't see if that's actually been answered yet. I honestly doubt the RA banner itself will last to the end of the decade, though. I don't see a lot of brand loyalty towards it. Given ...

Re: Downtown Bethesda Safeway to close
It's a small, awkwardly located store (easy to miss, so it doesn't get people who happen to be in this busy area). When it opened, it's only competition would have been a small Giant a few blocks away and the other Safeway in the area would have been a relic from the 60s. Now the Giant has been gre...

Re: Albertsons to buy (what's left of) RiteAid
Apparently, Albertsons learned its lesson from the Lucky debacle and won't mess with Jewel-Osco. Besides, RiteAid never operated in or near Chicago, so that name is meaningless. Regarding the other markets, it seems to make sense to brand the pharmacies "RiteAid." "Albertsons-SavOn&qu...
