Re: Ralphs now accepting contactless

The people using Apple Pay always seem to struggle with it. Never got the point. Haven't seen them get indignant, though. Mostly, they seem to be people who aren't good at multi-tasking but persist anyway.

Re: ACE Hardware Operations

Ace has done well in DC--a former neighbor has several of them, tailored to each neighborhood and they happily do special orders for hard to find items. Ace just picked up Strosnider's in the suburbs as a franchise---Strosnider has a larger format and loyal following with great service. Even in HD's...

Re: QuickTrip Ends 24 Hour Stores To Prevent Crime

No need to lecture. Been to LA dozens of times and spent up to a couple months there at a time. I've been all over the area, particularly but not exclusively in LA County and my work takes me into areas of LA (and other places like SF and NYC) that probably offend your delicate sensibilities. The ur...

Re: SpinCo

Competitive conditions may have changed in the US but the various Weston family companies (Loblaw is only one of them, they own others or control them through an investment company) do not seem to have any investments in the US and the various operations have been in more of a divesture than acquisi...

Re: QuickTrip Ends 24 Hour Stores To Prevent Crime

Little bit of missed snark here and a bit too much attention to crap social media and cable news.

Opioid Settlement with CVS & Walgreen

This seemed the most comprehensive of the wire service pieces. The Bloomberg article is paywalled.

Re: Walgreens Closures Continue in San Francisco

It's an updated plaza in a gentrified, but somewhat isolated part of Baltimore with some industrial employers. The center has recognizable tenants like Starbucks, Sherwin-Williams, etc. There's a Harris Teeter nearby and Giant is replacing Shoppers (I assume Giant will have a pharmacy---they're the ...

Re: SpinCo

Kimco sold 29% of their Albertsons shares subsequent to the announcement of the sale, which is (absolutely not) coincidentally the premium in the merger. This implies that they cannot hold any more common stock in their portfolio than they did on the announcement date. Further, they are free to sel...

Re: SaveMart Using Amazon For Delivery

I don't know why Save Mart would do this. Amazon Fresh has stores planned throughout Save Mart's territory. I guess the Instacart Pick up program in Reno isn't working. I don't see anyone using their pick up service EVER. No staged orders, nobody picking orders in the store, nothing in the coolers....

Re: Walmart observations

It serves a range of incomes, which is not unusual in Pittsburgh---the wealth is concentrated in several widely dispersed areas and the one upscale mall serves a very middle income area; the poorest, most depopulated areas seem to be the old industrial suburbs in the Monongahela River valley rather...
