Re: Amazon to purchase Whole Foods for $13.7Billion
I think this is a great move for Amazon and a great move for Whole Foods. Whole Foods ...will no longer have to deal with the pressures of Wall Street. ... This is very true and very meaningful. I work for a large financial institution that is owned by a Japanese financial institution. Although we ...

Re: New Albertsons open in Las Vegas
...The Smith's meat department continues to look terrible compared to a Ralphs or Frys Meat Department. The Safeway Meat Departments up here look very fresh, have little product out, and are horribly priced (7.49/lb 90% lean ground beef and 7.99/lb short ribs???). I was in Albuquerque over Memorial...

Re: Far-flung locations of chain restaurants
There is a Winchell's Donut in Wichita, KS. Looks like it has been there a long time. Back in the 1970's and 80's they had several locations in Chicago and other Midwestern cities. I think they closed up in the late 1980's. That location in Witchita might be a remnant of those bygone days. LOVED th...

Re: Amazon to purchase Whole Foods for $13.7Billion
Wouldn't it be wiser for Amazon to buy regional grocery chains to integrate into their system instead of Whole Paycheck...whose prices and attitude turns off many shoppers Even though there are many regional grocers left to buy, integrating a patchwork of disparate companies who run disparate syste...

Re: Aldi fires $3.4 billion shot in US supermarket wars
I think that is how Aldi is viewed in most markets, as a competitor to other discount stores rather than to conventional stores. I don't think it is considered a conventional supermarket competitor anywhere. Well, maybe by Wall Street Analysts... All I know is from my observations, Aldi stores in m...

Re: Consumer Reports Latest Supermarket Rankings
Brand perception is different than the perception of produce quality, so it's not just "I feel like King Soopers is better than Ralphs". In terms of sample sizes, that is true, and it is somewhat accurate. I think most of us would agree that Publix is superior to Safeway overall, but even...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid
.....Maybe they thought Acme-Osco sounded odd). But it did absolutely nothing for Acme. As stores have been remodeled, most have lost the Sav-On branding, although for some reason, a few have had new Sav-On signage go up (at least inside the store), through very recent remodels. Would it be possibl...

Re: Raleys re-tiles cement floor in Incline Village, NV
I like concrete floors when the store starts with fresh concrete that is stained and sealed before installing shelving and fixtures. When a remodel results in glue- and shelf-marked concrete. It looks horrible and unappetizing. They could at least put a layer of fresh concrete over the marred floor ...

Re: Sears/Kmart Death Watch 2017
Here's an interesting read about how Sears could have avoided all this.
Coincidentally, a friend and I were talking about how Sears could have been Amazon had they adapted the catalog to e-commerce instead of killing it back in 1993.
