Price Chopper, Tops to merge

The combined company will operate out of Schenectady. The banners will continue to operate separately. It's not clear how overlapping stores will be dealt with. Both chains have had their share of struggles in recent years, so I'm not sure if the synergies will be as beneficial as one might think. h...

Look at all that great Polar Seltzer. It must be close to 1/3 aisle worth. Plus more of the aisle for private label seltzer. You just can't beat the selection at this chain, or the pricing, on center store items especially. This is the type of item to seek out at this chain. Shaw's also has a "...

Market Basket opens second Maine store (Westbrook)

Nice store overall. I met Arthur T (again) at the grand opening Friday morning. Little if any vendor activity noted, quite unlike the Biddeford opening. I guess they were trying to limit the amount of non-customer presence due to Covid-related capacity limits (300 in the case of MB.) Even so, quite ...

Re: Tesco Considering Sale of Asian Businesses

Hubris is one thing (and there was a fair amount of it with respect to Tesco's history in the US) but the thing is that Tesco had run out of growth opportunities in its home territory so in order to continue to grow they had to look to new territories. Re: Is the end near at Sears?

In the last day or so the media started embracing the 100-store-closure narrative in reporting local impacts. Case in point:

Is the end near at Sears?

The rumor mill is abuzz about massive store closures and a huge RIF at corporate headquarters. A list of 80 Kmart and 14 Sears stores to close by December is circulating online at The Layoff and on social media, and a Forbes article today citing vendors and buyers inside the company states that most...
