Re: Sonic Operations

To be fair, I live in Texas, where Sonics are extremely common (almost as common as McDonald's--there are maybe about 1200 McDonald's restaurants to 900 Sonic restaurants)...but between 2001 and 2006, I remember that construction of Sonic restaurants just took off...they went from about four Sonic r...

Re: Target 2022

An interesting article detailing Target's efforts to reduce stock on things people aren't buying to make space for products people are buying as has been discussed elsewhere in this thread. Also talks about the increase in stock levels at Target and other retailers. Target speaks to wanting to carr...

Re: The present and future of Randalls

Does El Rancho sell Signature items/participate in the loyalty program for fuel points/J4U or anything in Houston? Or does it come off as completely unrelated to Albertsons (like the oddly placed Kansas unit does)? I believe that El Rancho does now sell Signature items but not participate in other ...

Re: The present and future of Randalls

When a Randalls closed in 2021 in Austin, Randalls still insisted that they were interesting in the Austin, and there was some evidence that they wanted to add a new store at the base of a residential tower near downtown Austin; however, the grocery component was scrapped after neighborhood resistan...

Re: Potential multiple takeover bids for Kohl's

So apparently the latest proposal is to sell to... the franchiser of Vitamin Shoppe? You couldn't write a funnier soap opera than this Kohl's sale process if you tried. Maybe they can replace the Sephora with a Vitamin Shoppe. This sounds about as viable as the Haggen acquisition of all those Alber...

Re: Target 2022

Tesco also briefly operated clothing departments in Hy-Vee (F&F) for about three years before it was replaced with Loblaws' Joe Fresh.

Re: Kohl's To Open 100 Small Format Stores

They probably realized what I said months ago - that it is not easy to just cut a store in half and sublease the rest... It costs just as much, if not more, than building a new store from scratch and introduces liability on Kohl's to be a landlord for someone else unless they can somehow get out fr...

Re: Acorn does a price check: NY, Chicago, LA suburbs

I wonder how Trader Joes would do with that price list. Assuming they had all of the items... I think Kroger is pricing more and more off of Target. Not sure what QFC is doing being so much more expensive than Albertsons, that is really off. I saw another chart that a Northwest blogger and a Housto...

Re: Westfield Says It Is Done With The U.S.

As a somewhat famous\infamous example, Dixie Square Mall in Harvey Illinois (most notable as the site of a car chase through the then abandoned mall in the film The Blues Brothers ) had a Jewel store and a Walgreens as tenants during its time as an operating mall from 1966-1978. Throughout much of ...

Re: BrandX To Relaunch Bon Ton and Open a Carson's

As much as I would've liked to see The Bon-Ton et. al. stay around, for all intents & purposes it is dead and there's no reason to re-animate its corpse and make a new store unconnected from the old ones. Half the problem (figuratively, probably a much smaller percentage) with department stores ...
