Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
I'm somewhat surprised at the lack of divestitures in the Washington, DC region. Safeway is by far the stronger brand when compared to Harris Teeter - frankly, HT's entire operation in the region seems disheveled when compared to its operation in the Carolinas. I felt the same way about HT stores i...

Not to go too far down a rabbit hole here off topic but I was surprised that King's / Balducci's was not sold to C&S. That seemed like more of a non-core entity that also overlapped with Acme / Safeway / Harris Teeter in that same region.

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
This is such a joke. I think I can go with the idea of QFC brand being used on 150 stores in OR/WA. It might work. Getting the Carr's brand okay. That is great. In Alaska. 14 stores. Okay. And now back to this thing of the Albertsons banner having two operators again. Really? But with Supervalu/LLC...

I'd assume Grand Union will be the name used for these stores.

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
OMG....................and Holy Cxxx! And perhaps 237 more stores. Looks like CLOWN was spot on again. I wonder if Pavilions in West Hollywood will be Pavilions by Ralphs, Pavilions by Kroger or Ralphs Fresh Fare. And what will the eventually merged company do with all the Ralphs in my area that lo...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
Most of the Arizona sites are branded Safeway. Outside of Phoenix and Tucson, Albertsons is nonexistent. Plus the whole Safeway union/Albertsons nonunion situation in Arizona. There are 30 Albertsons stores currently in Arizona. My guess is that 24 of them get sold to C&S and 6 become either Fr...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
It looks like about 400 stores will go to C&S. https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/kroger-albertsons-talks-sell-stores-cs-softbank-bloomberg-news-2023-09-06/ And these 400 stores will all close within the next decade or be sold piecemeal to ethnic operators or small regional chains. C&S h...

Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie
The grocery industry tends to overreact with a big announcement like the ALDI/SEG marriage, will we see Lidl try to make some moves on the American market? We have gotten to the point that any time there's a merger announcement, folks start the "everybody's gonna lose their jobs" talk. In...

Re: Self Check Out
Costco installed a self checkout lane at their new Buckeye AZ store.. there is no customer used scan gun (Unlike Sam’s Club), you have to place your items on a table after scanning at the terminal, and a clerk has to scan large items in your basket. More inconvenient than Sam’s. That's the way that...
