Re: Publix

Publix appears to be doing well expanding into new markets and infilling in existing markets with additional stores and improving existing stores through expansion, rebuilds or replacements without going into debt. I think Publix can easily expand into western Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky in...

Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration

There is also the possibility that the platforms Kroger is running can't handle a large influx of stores or they are using the Harris Teeter platform as Kroger East, just as Fred Meyers runs Kroger West. Is this where Kroger has three senior vice presidents of retail operations each overseeing appr...

Re: Publix

Does anyone see Publix undertaking a significant expansion westward? Its McCalla, Alabama, distribution center, projected to open in 2017, will support stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Further expansion in Tennessee into Memphis and entering new states in Mississippi and Kentucky ...

Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration

At this point we don't even have any Kroger brand items in Harris Teeter and as was pointed out here, it isn't a "division" - it is a "subsidiary." I suspect that will eventually change... but for now these are very separate formats. Harris Teeter can easily operate as a full-fl...

Re: Sears Holdings to close 78 MORE stores

Looks like a few more got added to the list not previously announced. These include Bristol, TN; Bossier City, LA; Presque Isle, ME; and Farmington Hills, MI, as well as a couple more Sears stores, including one in Wausau, WI. This doesn't look good. Kmart #3621 , 1470 Chestnut Street, Orangeburg, ...

Re: Southeastern Grocers refocusing Harvey's Supermarket banner

I wonder who would buy these stores...? I think these are already largely garbage stores passed up by Publix when they bought a group of Bi-Los in Charlotte in what I presume were the more upper middle class neighborhoods. Several Bi-Lo stores in North Carolina and South Carolina that could be sold...

Harris Teeter operates as a subsidiary. If integration remains to be completed, will it be in line to become an actual division?

Re: Southeastern Grocers refocusing Harvey's Supermarket banner

Sounds like they're trying to weed out the worst/dated of the W-D stores by converting them to another concept. Probably a good idea, but it always strikes me as problematic when a company tries to push the low-end stuff and/or salvage stuff that should've closed instead. Southeastern Grocers may h...

Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration

I don't think opening 78k square feet stores are necessarily a step toward Marketplace stores, as a lot of stores in Texas at least reach that...If the 78k square foot stores are mostly food then I would say that's not a sign, necessarily, that they are moving in that direction. Kroger has been exp...
