Re: Breaking: HEB buys 6 Minyard Sun Fresh stores in DFW
Both the locations kept by H-E-B seem like good locations. I like the way the store at Midway/NW Highway is set up, it makes it seem more "upscale" in a way. I'm really not surprised by the other four being sold off (Lake Highlands is going back to Albertsons IIRC), and while I may be wron...

Re: Price Chopper/Market 32 for sale
The main problem was/is their reinventing themselves into something they clearly are not and should not have even considered being. They're not Wegman's or Whole Foods or Fresh Market. They are Price Chopper plain and simple who for years ran (and still do run) very good stores. As I write this, I ...

Re: Southeastern Grocers refocusing Harvey's Supermarket banner
Fact of the matter is Mississippi has very few chain supermarkets altogether. There's only about a dozen Winn-Dixie stores (mostly along the coast) and a small pocket of Kroger stores, and that's it...unless I'm missing something, it's mostly smaller independents. It's possible that since these Win...

Re: Price Chopper/Market 32 for sale
Admittedly, Albertsons was a bit of a left-field choice, partly because they're not a great grocer to begin with and afaik, the company still loses money. It certainly would close up the gap between Shaw's and ACME plus some, but there's too many unanswered questions. Would it have a greater degree...

Re: Sonoma County’s G&G Supermarkets purchased by Safeway
News articles reported that G&G Supermarkets closed yesterday, though I don't know if they'll redecorate the ENTIRE store or not (one of them was remodeled relatively recently IIRC). I do wonder why Safeway can't just keep it as G&G Supermarkets and then slowly transition in like how Pik 'n ...

At least they're showing some restraint, and backing off on the promise to remove ALL of them?

Re: Southeastern Grocers refocusing Harvey's Supermarket banner
If Publix could acquire quality stores from Southeastern Grocers, they could be BI-LO stores in North Carolina and South Carolina that are in good locations and/or good performers. Not having a pharmacy beyond one store could hurt Rouse's if Publix expands into Louisiana. Investing into and expandi...

Re: California Single Use Bag Ban
From what I've seen working as a bagger in a grocery store is that most people do not wash reusable bags, and tossed filthy bags toward my end, often with cigarette smoke and other unidentifiable smells. A study of about five years ago revealed that 75% of people do not separate meats and vegetable...
