Re: Radio Shack liquidating?

The Radio Shack in Longview, WA is still open. I was in there a couple days ago and they have shifted a lot of what they have towards cell phones. However, they did have a very small selection of the traditional Radio Shack offerings toward the back of the store. No signs about store closings. Iron...

Re: Haggen begins conversion of former Safeway/Albertsons st

So I'm reading on some of the Yelp reviews, such as this one for a San Diego location, that they don't accept WIC or EBT (ANY supermarket in California does). How are they going to survive in places like Chula Vista or San Ysidro? I starting to think this company is really run by a bunch of idiots....

Re: Wendy's replacing older locations with new buildings

I only know of a couple of former McDonald's locations around here where the building got reused by someone else (one just closed outright, the other one moved to a nearby location). We have one here (East Greenbush) that has been empty for a couple years. It was an old store (drive thru with roof ...

Re: Kroger Converts Three Harris Teeters and Closes One1

Kroger is closing 1 Harris Teeter and converting 3 others to Kroger in the Nashville, Tennessee area. This is the first time that Kroger has switched banners on a Harris Teeter store. Perhaps they believe that the Kroger name is stronger in the Nashville area. Apparently, Kroger does not see much v...

Re: Albertsons / Safeway to Divest 168 stores

Sounds like Safeway is keeping the club card program intact according to that article. Gotta wonder where other conversions are going to happen, I would almost bet that in Washington and Oregon, most conversions will be to Safeway, as the Albertsons name has been tarnished over the last few years. ...

Re: Wendy's replacing older locations with new buildings

McDonalds does (or at least did at one time) have somewhat more power in the situation, as they were both landlord and franchisor. One of the lesser known people in the founding of the company was more into the financial and real estate ends, and he developed a plan that allowed the corporation to b...

Re: Wendy's replacing older locations with new buildings

Storewanderer, the local papers briefly covered the closing of the Wendy's restaurants in Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Albany and The Dalles. No one wanted to say explicitly what happened. According to the Eugene Register Guard, the owner "failed to meet certain basic obligations of his Wen...

Re: Haggen begins conversion of former Safeway/Albertsons st

The issue in CA is when the price is below what the state says the dairy item can be sold for. The state regulates at least some dairy prices, fluid milk for example. If you tried to run a $1.99 a gallon milk ad in CA, the state would come in and make you retract it because that falls below the sta...

Re: Haggen begins conversion of former Safeway/Albertsons st

Are eggs under any minimum price laws in CA? If so that $1.49 price may not even be legal... in any case they are definitely taking a good loss on every package of eggs at that price. Here in Reno many grocers are supplied from CA. So Raleys and Save Mart no longer sell their own private label eggs...
