Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?

Kroger could acquire a current participant with significant store count in Florida, expand the Harris Teeter division across Florida, and/or go in organically with its Marketplace hypermarket stores. I see part 1 being the most likely choice. Kroger, outside a few stores here and there, hasn't grow...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid

Rite Aid shareholders have approved the takeover offer from Walgreens. If Rite Aid is eliminated, then there will be only 2 major drug store chains in the entire country: Walgreens and CVS. Consumers will be left with fewer choices. There will be less competition and we could see huge price increas...

Re: Winn-Dixie Reveals Next generation Store

I agree with just about every post here and I would add, Winn Dixie has had many opportunities to "do it right" but instead chose to continually reinvent it self ($$$$$$$$$). Winn Dixie might have learned many lessons by studying Stater Brothers on the west coast. Stater Brothers dedicatio...

Re: Publix expanding to Virginia

Interesting that you bring up Greenwise and Sabor. From what I have read, Publix does not intend to expand the above monikers but instead will incorporate all that was learned into Publix stores built in areas that could have supported the brand. I understand why they would adjust their original int...

Re: Publix expanding to Virginia

I think that fresh and perimeter are huge opportunities for Publix and I say this because my empirical experience tells me this: 1. Where there is qualitative competition (say a Whole Foods, Wild Oats {back in the days}, and a few other current and historical examples), Publix does an exemplary job ...

Re: Publix expanding to Virginia

Were you able to visit stores in Miami, Miami Beach, Hialeah, Miami Springs, Kendall, etc.? For the most part the stores in the southwest have above average volume due to Publix saturating the market helped by a lack of competitors. There are a substantial number of stores, like the one near Dadelan...

Re: Could we ever see a Publix-HEB merger (or Wegmans)?

H-E-B is a bit like Publix but it plays its own game. They heavily push a Texas angle which would have to be retooled for other markets. Expansion has been slow as they choke out competition. They own San Antonio, they pretty much own Austin (Randalls, Safeway's Texas brand maintains a rather dista...

Re: Gelsons opening first of former Haggen locations January 14

This is not the first time they have been in that neighborhood. Mayfair, which later became a Jons, was on the corner of Fountain and La Brea forever before being torn down for another Hollywood mega development a couple of years ago. I remember that Mayfair really well. It was in very bad shape. I...

Re: Fry's Signature concept in existing store

That, is my kind of store!!

Just about everything under one roof. I love being able to get everything I need in one shop!

The store looks great but the ceiling is yuk and the center store floors are yuk as well.

Re: Publix expanding to Virginia

Also interesting that this comes closely behind Wegmans announcement of their first NC store to be built in Cary (Raleigh-Durham area) where Publix and Wegmans will go head to head for the first time. I guess they know what they are doing, as successful as they've been but wonder if the further the...
