Re: Sears to resume paint sales

Throwing out a guess: because as the company deteriorates and they want to save money, Sears and Kmart lines are merging, something they kind of tried to do with Sears Essentials but never could. That whole program tried to get Sears to modernize to an extent but ended up probably ended up fatally d...

Re: Save Mart remodeling Oakdale/expanding

Like Kmart, they leave the old wall décor up while moving something else there. Classy. Unless the frozen section is behind the soda shelves? Seems someplace else they did that - since that section is under the lower ceiling, they put the décor on the part where the ceiling drops to let you ...

Re: United Supermarkets announces a few more stores...in Lubbock

Market Street doesn't seem to be going anywhere (last year they expanded the operations to 24 hours at one store), but they do seem to be suppressed. Tom Thumb is expanding but they don't seem to be really trying to do anything new. If squeezing out Market Street was the goal, then Tom Thumb should ...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid

The thing I'm worried about is like Haggen, these will tend to be "junk" stores, low-volume or outdated operations, and not the types of stores a company like Albertsons would want. Good news is that at least the overlap areas ARE covered by their DCs (afaik) and they DO have a ready drug ...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid

News now is that Kroger is considering buying the drug stores divested. This I'm not too sure on, as the divested stores would have to be a new banner entirely since unlike Albertsons, Kroger doesn't have an existing brand. If Kroger does buy those stores, Lempert said, there's the potential for the...

Re: "Lucky California"

For a variety of reasons (theft, safety, service) I think if a store is too slow to have a dedicated cashier near the front end all night (they can refill bags, clean checkstands, restock candy, face endcaps, get ad tags torn/sorted), they should probably not be open all night. You really need some...

Re: Save Mart remodeling Oakdale/expanding

Even if things fell apart economically after buying Albertsons, I'm not sure they wouldn't have run a substandard operation even if the economy was good. Again, as an outside observer, it looks like Save Mart wasn't prepared to deal with it. It's like they saw where their stores were, what stores th...

United Supermarkets announces a few more stores...in Lubbock

http://www.kcbd.com/story/32428508/united-supermarkets-announces-7-store-remodel-and-new-locations-in-lubbock This one I missed, but it appears that United Supermarkets is doubling down in Lubbock, building out a United store at a site with a gas station and a nice parking lot built five years ago t...

Re: "Lucky California"

No photos, too many employees and too many dead areas (like all of bakery/deli, and liquor, and drug). Hard to get angles of the back wall due to the weird snack rectangular fixtures described between the back endcap and the back wall. Save Mart should have used the Lucky name in Sacramento and Ren...
