Re: Stop & Shop closures
Helpful that you found actual data, which suggests a slow decline in the NYC area and a likely a failure to have much scale in NJ in the first place. You haven't spent enough time here to know that this doesn't stop people here from predicting an apocalypse (or that matter reading too much into one...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
At this point I have to wonder if there is some sort of "due diligence" clause in their merger agreement that negates or reduces the $600M breakup fee if the merger is officially shot down by the court system (instead of being voluntarily withdrawn). That would explain why they say they'r...

If they combined the operating units, the Amazon Fresh stores need to be renamed, licensed, or closed.storewanderer wrote: ↑March 20th, 2024, 11:26 pm Could they be trying to prop this thing to spin it off...?

Re: Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions Cutting Store Hours
Albertsons Montebello was 6am-11pm, now it's 5am-11pm. It actually expanded op hours by an hour. Albertsons Vons was 6am-11pm, it didn't change. So both my local stores really didn't cut hours, with one expanding. Both are busy locations close to each other. I think this further validates that they...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
A&P operated a 55k square foot food and drug chain in the Southeast called The Family Mart in the 1980s and attempted to re-enter Florida after leaving in the 1970s (link). When they left, Kroger bought them all and converted to Florida Choice, though Kroger left within a year or two. Grand Uni...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Florida is a long, long way from Boise. That was one problem, the lack of the willingness to compete was another. They had the infrastructure with the Plant City DC, but that itself is deep in Publix territory. A first grader with crayons could have taken down Winn Dixie. Albertsons came to Florida...

Re: Fast Food chains focusing on apps while menu prices skyrocket
All this chatter begs the question: Why do people still go to these fast food places? They don't. They go to In-N-Out instead. Look at the lines there. Have you seen the Chili's commercials? They say "have you seen the fast food prices? It's like they want you to eat at Chili's instead." ...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
I found that during the pandemic, Stop & Shop's market share slipped by 1.1 percent, with the other Ahold Delhaize banners gained market share (they didn't have numbers for Giant-MD other than it being positive, but Food Lion went up 1.8, Giant-PA went up by 0.5, Hannaford went up by 0.5), blam...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
There were no problems with Albertsons in Florida. Everyone I visited were clean, modern, well staffed and well run. The "problem" was they did not have enough stores to make a difference and for some reason would not build more stores. I think they would have taken W/D to the cleaners IF...
