Re: Stop & Shop closures
It looks like a significant amount of the meat is case ready? Yep, Stop & Shop doesn't cut meat in-store anymore and mostly the service windows have been closed or removed. In some of the new remodels, they have added in service meat counters, although I'm not positive you can have anything don...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
These photos are troubling. It is well past the first of the month, no holidays, and odd scattered out of stocks. This seems similar to how A&P did things before it closed divisions. Inventory levels got really low, like drugstore style, all over the store. They stopped caring about things like...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
Visited another 11 Stop & Shops today -- one in northern NJ and the rest in the Hudson Valley of New York (Orangeburg to Hyde Park). Some updates on what I found. The store conditions vary (both in terms of maintenance and in-stock), but generally stock is thin across the board still. Some of th...

Re: Whole Foods To Open 7,000 Square Foot Stores
They have some of these small size stores in the bay area already but they are standard Whole Foods banner and just as described in locations where a full size store cannot fit. They probably figured out these little stores get far higher ROI so they will go forward and expand them. Of course the n...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
I wonder if we see this deal called off by the end of the week... Ready for a crazy conspiracy theory? Kroger-Albertsons merger is called off. We go back to Plan A and one of them acquires or merges with Ahold Delhaize's US division. Now hear me out. It's obvious that Stop & Shop is struggling ...

Re: Whole Foods To Open 7,000 Square Foot Stores
These are about the size of many other supermarkets in New York City. I would estimate that the average NYC supermarket is 15-20,000 square feet, with plenty below 15 or even 10,000. The one they're opening first is a former Food Emporium. Now, Whole Foods actually used this "Daily Shop" f...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
Stop & Shop is the only mainstream supermarket I can find with actual NYC stores (none in Manhattan though), and it stretches from New York City to Boston. If it's up for sale, who's gonna buy it? Albertsons (assuming no merger) can't buy it in whole unless it wants to divest a good chunk of AC...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
@marketreportblog Based on your descriptions of the stores, it seems that Stop and Shop went all in on large stores in the early 2000s. Other than the stores that are former Edwards locations, how many of these massive stores are built off the Super Stop and Shop model? My understanding is that mod...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
Had more time today to check out 11 more Stop & Shop stores in the Newark, NJ area, Staten Island, and a few in central Jersey. Now I don't know what to think. On the whole, these stores are WAY better run than the Bergen/Passaic county stores I visited last week, but still, lots of problems wit...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
Also someone mentioned up thread somewhere about pharmacies being closed in Stop & Shop Stores in some cases. What is that all about. Does Ahold have a tract record of random pharmacy closures too? Haven't checked outside of NJ, but the thing about the NJ stores is that so few of them had pharm...
