Re: Ralphs Discontinuing Traditional Printed Ads
No doubt that this will cost some sales, but it will also remove a huge expense. In the Northwest, the Fred Meyer ad in the Sunday paper sometimes has more pages than the entire Monday newspaper. I can't imagine how much it costs to send that out, but it's worth losing a few sales. This could also ...

Re: Ralphs Discontinuing Traditional Printed Ads
Safeway had planned on eliminating traditional printed ads prior to the Albertsons merger. It was part of their "going green" initiative which also advocated the phase out of free plastic bags. I can't see how this would work if Kroger tried to do it in Arizona. Every major grocer in Arizo...

Re: Albertsons and...Sprouts?
Every Sprouts store in the Phoenix area is within 1-2 miles of an Albertsons or Safeway store.

Re: Fry's 902 W. Irvington Rd. Tucson Closed
There are a combination of reasons why this store closed. #1 This is a duplicate store. This store was an ex-Smiths. There is a pre-merger Kroger built Fry's 1 mile north at I-19 and Ajo Way. Fry's has been closing these "duplicative" stores more aggressively over the past few years (espec...

Re: Integration of Albertsons and Safeway
Albuquerque is closer to Lubbock than Phoenix by about 2 hours (drive time). El Paso is a toss up. I'm curious what this means for the two distribution centers in Phoenix. Currently Albertsons bannered stores use the Tolleson, AZ distribution center and Safeway and Vons bannered stores use the Temp...

Re: Breaking: Randalls Houston DC set to close
I didn't read about the division office closing, but let's be serious here, the DC was too big for the relatively small and spread-out number of stores it had to service. It would've been better to sell the DC and rely on outsourcing for the remaining stores (such as Louisiana) business-wise. I don...

Re: Kroger breaks 13 year same store sales increase
Yet their Fry's division in AZ is in a building and hiring boom-a new store to be built in Downtown Phoenix and several new Marketplace stores planned or under construction. Meanwhile, Albertsons/Safeway is closing stores and Walmart, Target, and Bashas' are frozen in store count. Winco hasn't open...

Re: Fry's 20th & Highland (Camelback Colonnade) in Phoenix
The post about a replacement Kroger in Cincinnati, which happens to look very much like the Fry's store in the Camelback Colonnade, made me wonder whether the Fry's is also a tear-down-and-replace, a new store, or a remodel of an existing store. Anyone know? This is a remodel of an existing store. ...

Re: Wal-Mart sued for selling fake craft beer
Of course, this absurd--they are so locked into a centralized way of doing things and so oblivious as to how they can attract a slightly better off customer into their stores, they'll do something as boneheaded as this. Alcohol is a heavily regulated business and that may be why house brand beer di...
