Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

The Chinese buffet in my town is doing take out orders right now. I wonder how that works? Do they set up the buffet and when you place the order and they dish up what you want and bring it out to you? Or do they cook everything to order? It has a grill to order station as well so I guess they can ...

Re: Self checkout barriers at Home Depot

Maybe you can scan items directly from the cart. I am very surprised how "honor system" the new Home Depot self checkouts are. However the employees (sometimes there are 2 on duty here) are very active in watching what you are doing which I think helps serve as a deterrent. Are these barri...

Re: Sears/Kmart: Will 2020 be the end?

It appears 5 more Sears and 2 more Kmarts were announced for closure in the past few days... How long can this string out...? Is it going to get to a point where there are like 5-10 stores under each banner still open? Unreal. They appear to be quietly closing stores yet again with no announcements...

Didn't they do this with some tortillas or tortilla chips a while back?

Superior Grocers adding 2nd Bakersfield Store

In a former Food Maxx. https://www.bakersfield.com/news/new-supermarket-aims-to-fill-neighborhood-void/article_47334ffc-a1e7-11ea-907f-5f7d765fac13.html Will be interesting to see how this impacts the nearby Albertsons, which has an ultra low budget interior compared to what Albertsons was opening a...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

I am seeing really mixed in stock condition across chains. Right when I think things are starting to normalize I come across some stores that are still having shortages. From what I am seeing, paper product aisles are still getting cleared, but not every day. Hand soap aisles are still getting clear...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

I suspect many stores were solving that problem by just using alternating registers, since that way there is no one walking right behind a cashier (they are separated by the not in use register). I did see at least one store here that did wipe the reader (at least for the self check), but perhaps s...
