Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
99 Only often operated in areas where you wouldn't expect a dollar store to move in. It seems like in much of CA that strategy worked pretty well for them. In TX obviously it didn't. I think their inventory levels are too high and something else is going to happen in the coming weeks to move invento...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Are they even serious about this anymore? They are now proposing to divest FEWER stores in CA than they previously were. However they will now be divesting ALL Albertsons/Vons/Safeway/Pavilions in CA. Previously it said they'd be divesting some Ralphs/F4L/FCO Stores. Interesting change there. They a...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
These liquidation sales, I really wonder how they plan to get rid of all the product. I think they're going to have a hard time with some of it. The inventory levels in CA are so high compared to what I saw out of state. But without food customers seem to have moved on from 99 Only. It is almost lik...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
A different location.
This is so unimaginably bad and disappointing.
I have never seen it get this bad on inventory for a typical food/drug chain before. I've seen one store independents who ran into disputes with wholesalers like this before...

Re: Aldi lists job openings at multiple warehouses and nearly 30 stores in Northern California
Not my experience at all this weekend. I encountered a messy store with one checkout open and the line going down the aisle (it did move fast though- I waited about 8 minutes), and as I was waiting in that line thinking about and observing the store conditions I was thinking to myself this place is ...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
How can this chain survive with stores that look like this?
What is going on here?
These are busy stores. I went into a couple obviously not busy stores that did not quite look this bad.

Re: Hy-Vee buying Strack & Van Til
It was a big deal when local ownership outbid Jewel for the stores (the main issue was overlap), but then they decide to sell out anyway, this time to Hy-Vee? Hy Vee might actually be a better fit than Jewel. I like Jewel but the further you get from Chicago the worse it seems to perform and the mo...

Re: Burlington closing Carson City, NV location
Hobby Lobby will do great in this location.
It will probably be the end for the Jo Ann in Carson though. And I'm not sure if the Michaels will survive either in their current location. Maybe they could try to relocate.

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
Thrifty Payless was actually quite profitable. While it didn't have as good of performance as the old Longs chain did, it was absolutely profitable. However Rite Aid quickly made a lot of changes that definitely hurt the store performance some of which was quickly retracted when Bob Miller arrived a...
