Re: Rite Aid changes logo
Noticing some other changes at Rite Aid lately in larger former Payless Stores: 1. Self checkout is being added; they have little tiny units that I have also seen at Wal Mart which are one screen and a scanner/printer right below the screen, very compact, no scale to weigh items as scanned... They b...

Re: Coronavirus and Plastic Bag Bans
Noticed something interesting in a local Wal-Mart earlier this morning. The way the entrance is set up I somehow found myself walking in back of the registers in the front end and noticed the bagging carousels were not stocked very well. I did end up buying a few items (not my store of choice but t...

Re: Barber Shops, Salons, Massage Parlors, Reopening
Many places in California have just reopened barbershops and salons. The demand is overwhelming with long waitlists. I see so many people with big hair now. They need a barber urgently. There was a Great Clips in Missouri where 2 stylists had coronavirus. They tested the clients afterwards and ther...

Re: Walgreens Resumes Normal Hours
Rite Aid's late 90's prototype stores included a roll down gate for the evening when the store closed. The ones here in Reno run by CVS still put that gate down.
Walgreens does have the roll down gates in the store to close off the pharmacy. It is probably all they care about.

Re: Target Raising Wage To $15
Target is doing the right thing and the result should be a higher quality of employee/higher level of performance in their stores, as a result of paying this higher wage. I hope it pans out for them this way. Target's quality of service/employee has deteriorated in Reno; sloppy uniforms, inconsisten...

Where else does Albertsons go against Hy Vee than in this market, anyway?

Re: Albertsons IPO (again)
What is ironic is the "owners" of Albertsons, heavy in other commercial real estate (which is going to tank, hard) and whatever else they have, it seems like the grocery business is in a really good position right now and will be a steady cash generating machine going forward. My guess is ...

Loose Bakery
Loose Bakery seems to be in trouble with Coronavirus. Went to Raleys today and the single donut/bagel fixture (a small freestanding fixture- pathetic little fixture really, it hardly held any product) was gone and removed. Previously they had packed up small portions or dozens in the case. Some othe...

Re: Schnucks Bettendorf IA closing
Schnucks actually runs a decent store but I think their pricing is on the high side (it looked better last year, than the previous years I had visited them). They have an excellent heavily scratch bakery both in product mix and product quality (price is not so good) and excellent produce (especially...

Re: Safeway sued for price gouging toilet paper
I went to Safeway yesterday and the toilet paper aisle was basically full, about 50% of this imported product and 50% of store brand, Charmin, and a tiny amount of Quilted Northern (who has just downsized their packages, again). Safeway also had some big packages of "White Cloud" which see...
