Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023

As you’ve said before, Meijer would give Giant Eagle a lot of trouble in Pittsburgh… I’d think they will go there next, unless there is a gentleman’s agreement with Giant Eagle (could possibly explain why Giant Eagle isn’t in Michigan, although they were talking about buying Farmer Jack at one poin...

Re: Stop & Shop closures

Could they just rebrand some of these to Giant-PA format? Ahold could got back to using the Edwards format that they had gotten in the their acquisition of First National Stores. Some number of the current North Jersey Stop and Shop stores were Edwards locations managed under Giant-PA. The current ...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023

Kroger flirted with Florida in the past. They had SuperX stores with large grocery sections on the in peripheral areas N of Miami and also Florida Choice stores in SW Florida which had service food departments and GM. Both seem like spinoffs from their Family Center operations which went into periph...

Re: Macy's Buyout? Private ownership bid

Dillard's runs on a model that I consider worse than commission. The employee's wage is based on how much they sell. They have a sales goal by day, week, etc. and wage is directly tied to it over time. They may get paid $15/hr today under the assumption they'll average $300 an hour in sales. If the...

Re: Stop & Shop closures

I'm surprised that they're closing Spout Run. It received a major remodel not that long ago and has been quite busy the few times I've been there. It's in a well-off part of Arlington and has no nearby competition. Getting from there to Virginia Square (the nearest store) isn't exactly a pleasure. W...

Re: New Balducci's Decor Package

An interesting update in Albertsons Mid-Atlantic: apparently there's a new decor package coming into at least one Balducci's in VA. It's extremely bland, at least based on a rendering posted to Broden Design Group's website (scroll down to Upcoming Projects). The current decor package is a variatio...

I'm guessing you haven't used them in awhile. Kinkos had 24 hour locations but Fedex put an end to that after they acquired them. All the overnight services are expensive.

Re: Sheetz having trouble gaining traction in Detroit

At least some of the newer ones seem to be moving toward a sit down trade with a wider menu. This puts them up against a broader range of competitors. It also leads to some awkward layouts if they don’t have a large piece of property, with the check out being away from the gas station part of the st...

Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie

Aldi does not want any store they choose not to keep to survive. They will not sell off those stores, they will close them. They have a bizarre philosophy that pretty much reads "our way or the highway." They sincerely believe their model is superior to the rest of the grocery industry, e...
