Re: Meijer entering St. Louis Metro

Meijer has secured a second location in the St. Louis metro area, this one also on the Metro East Illinois side. https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local/business-journal/meijer-metro-east/63-d5c441e7-37e1-4719-b3ab-a743d17d8591 I wonder how many locations they will plan to make a formal entry, and i...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?

I can see Schnucks picking up stores in the Chicago periphery. I think the stores in northern Illinois and Janesville, WI are serviced by UNFI/Supervalu. Probably some sort of deal they cut when they bought Shop 'N Save.
The stores on the edges of Chicago could be doable.

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?

Schnucks is a good operator, but seems to struggle with too much competition, and too much distance from St. Louis. They're very STL-centric. They would never survive Denver, not with stores they didn't construct, and that far from their base. They tried and failed twice in KC, and bailed on Memphis...

Yes, that's right where the sign was, Highway 75 and Peoria Avenue.

Re: Kroger to Open 3 Marketplace Stores in North Texas

My guess is that Kroger is simply trying to keep up with all of the new growth in North Texas. They took a pause I suppose when all of their money was going to their Occado "sheds" and now they're trying to catch up. I would suspect that the DFW area is one of their best markets. I don't t...

Re: Harris Teeter Refreshed Logo and Tagline

That's a sharp ad. Makes the food and the preparation look very appetizing. I hope it catches. Couldn't they also use a similar campaign at Mariano's and QFC? They're somewhat on par, right?
I like that tagline.

Re: Orscheln Farm and Home split up

No, the stores locally for me are going to the other operators, with Columbia, Fulton and Jefferson City going to Buchheit. I'm pretty excited about that, if Buchheit can pull it off. They're more than doubling their store count. TSC and Orscheln aren't either one that great, but Orscheln opened a n...

Orscheln Farm and Home split up

Orscheln Farm & Home is a regional chain in and around Missouri and surrounding states. It was announced over a year ago that they were selling out to larger rival Tractor Supply. Then it seemed there was virtually no new information about it. Apparently, the FTC ordered Tractor Supply to divest...

Re: Meijer mid-size concept coming to suburban Detroit

I think they could expand into St. Louis with this format and do quite well. St. Louis is dominated by Schnucks and Dierbergs and Wal-Mart has never really figured out the market well. Shop 'N Save left and was largely absorbed by Schnucks, but SNS was a completely different format. No matter how ha...
