Re: Albertsons Cos Advertising

Looks like this nonsense is all to promote their new Sincerely Health app-based "health platform." What an unnecessary distraction. I hope most of the "platform" development is just using a white-label partner and that they didn't actually devote tech resources to this. They sent...

Re: Survey nonsense

LOL Forbes has truly prostituted its brand to the max. This week they released a bunch of lists (Best Large Companies, Best Midsize Companies, Best Products in certain categories, etc.). My company landed on the Best Midsize Companies list (I work for a company unaffiliated with retail). Love my com...

Re: La Jolla Vons to be converted to Pavilions

And we haven't seen the last of San Diego Vons conversions either; La Costa should be next. It was going to be done in 2019 but it was delayed by construction of a movie theater in the complex which reduced parking and then the pandemic hit. I personally saw the parking lot plan for staging of cons...

Re: Starbucks To Open 2,000 Stores By 2025

I read an article about this that stated that the idea of the "third place" is dead. As if it was a general trend. It's definitely over for Starbucks, but I think there's potential for the concept, especially coming out of COVID. The skinny new Starbucks drive-through locations are a terri...

Re: Using an Old Receipt to Illustrate Inflation

Thanks for sharing the numbers and adjusting the figures in the cases of shrinkflation. This would make a great concept for a news article. If for no other reason than to publicly shame Safeway for their increases. Any reporters monitoring this thread? :D

Re: Target 2022

The Folsom location linked above looks almost identical to the recently opened small format Westchester (Los Angeles near LAX) CA store, terrible floors and all: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Target/@33.9555778,-118.4165934,13z/data=!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x86fcfd1c31a904dd!2sTarget!8m2!3d33.955578...

Re: eBay opens pop-up sneaker shop

"Sneakerhead" culture is real here is Los Angeles. I have several friends of modest means with surprisingly large, extensive sneaker collections. eBay is facing stiff competition from platforms like StockX and GOAT, so they are probably doing this for the check-ins and tags on social media...

Re: Nordstrom: dying too?

I was in the Del Amo Fashion Center (Torrance CA) location doing some shopping today, a Friday. This is one of Nordstrom's newer-build stores, built from the ground up in a relocation from the nearby dying South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach. Haven't been in since before the pandemic. Agree inventor...

Re: Westfield Says It Is Done With The U.S.

The "Shoppingtown" name was a very poor fit for the US too. That definitely did not help their case any. Often times when "town" follows a retail establishment name in the US, it seems to either be a backwoods sort of operation or a poor operation. The first time I saw the Westf...

Re: BBQ Holdings: HomeTown, Old Country Buffet

Drove by the Sizzler on Hawthorne Blvd. in Torrance, CA yesterday. Big "SALAD BAR OPEN!" banner out front. I think there is still gold to mine from offering that salad bar. It seems to have a following, as '90s / Souplantation-esque as it is.
