Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie

So much for Aldi continuing operations or converting the stores. I wonder what happened... So it looks like they will end up converting about half of the chain to Aldi? If you follow this back, I've always said Aldi would cherry pick the conversions, then sell the rest. So this should no be a surpr...

Re: South Dallas Tom Thumb Location Cancelled, Neighbors say area can support a grocer

I also find it kind of laughable that the media report raises the possibility that the opening of a Joe V's caused Albertsons to cancel this new store. Maybe they have never been to Joe V's... but I don't think Joe V's would be a factor to make Albertsons cancel a new store. Of course I really like...

Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie

Reuters reports C&S is in negotiations to buy around 170 remaining Winn-Dixie stores from ALDI, plus a group of liquor stores: https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/cs-wholesale-grocers-nears-deal-buy-winn-dixie-stores-sources-say-2025-02-07/ So much for Aldi continuing operations or converting...

Re: 77 King Soopers to strike for 2 weeks starting Thursday

With all the negative PR Kroger got with the merger fiasco, you would have to think they would have wanted to avoid a situation like this. Well, maybe it is an opportunity for Safeway to take some share... even if they can retain just 10% of the new customers who show up, it will be helpful to them...

Re: 77 King Soopers to strike for 2 weeks starting Thursday

This seems to be a list of impacted locations around Denver. https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/news/king-soopers-stores-colorado-adjusted-hours-strike/ Let's see how long this lasts. Also are the truck drivers honoring the picket line? Any vendors (some DSDs are unionized)? Super Bowl is Sunday... im...

Re: South Dallas Tom Thumb Location Cancelled, Neighbors say area can support a grocer

Houston and Austin don't seem to have told them the lesson. HEB is in the process of trying to teach them again in Dallas. Can't really do much with any "lessons" with how anemic their store openings are. The last Austin-area Randalls opened six years ago (many more have closed since) and...

Re: Walmart Buys Monroeville Mall & Annex

I've stayed near this mall a couple times. It's pretty dead despite renovations in the 2010s. I wouldn't be surprised if Walmart just tore it down. Macy's and JCP are in 3-story buildings. The layout is a bit confusing and that would make it less attractive for restoration. The nearby Miracle Mile ...

Re: Diet Cherry Coke Returns

Diet Cherry Coke disappeared for a while due to the aluminum can shortage. Now it is returning. Many diet soda flavors were discontinued due to the cans being used for more popular sodas. I have noticed that many things that used to be made of metal are now made with other materials. Shovels are no...

Re: Target discontinues three year DEI Goals

There is something "extra" you must do to accept Apple Pay both from a back end system perspective ($$$$) and a processing cost. It isn't just a software update or pin pad replacement. I cannot remember the explanation but besides physical cards most of the tap payments are Apple Pay. I d...

Re: Albertsons' Intermountain and Denver divisions to merge

Intermountain was also the only Division out west that was majority Albertsons Stores. This now makes the combined Denver+Intermountain majority Safeway Stores. Do the Albertsons-rebranded-as-Safeway stores in Denver actually do good business as Safeway? Maybe it's time to flip some (all?) back to ...
