Re: Safeway "New Lower Price" "Everyday Low Price" program?

Maybe two years ago, Albertsons/Vons began tagging many items “everyday low price.” Many of these tags remain, although most seem to have been retired. Many items have cheaper everyday prices at Ralphs, so I assume it’s some type of marketing campaign. Albertsons/Vons just competed another round of ...

Good catch, I forgot about that place. But looking at the photos on Google, most of the flooring and signage has been replaced in recent years.

Hollywood Markets Rochester, MI Closing

End of an era. While not official, staff at the Rochester Hollywood Markets location have confirmed that the store will be closing soon. Via social media reports, the store manager insists the store is profitable but the shopping center’s owners are significantly increasing the rent. He claims the s...

Re: CVS Closing 25 Minuteclinic locations in LA market, leaving only 11

Here's an article from the LA Times with a full closure listing: https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2024-01-31/cvs-to-close-25-minuteclinics-los-angeles-area Looks like only the Irvine location will survive in Orange County which is ironic considering it never has any business. I'm surprised CVS...

Re: Great Value candy bars

I'm curious who makes these Wal Mart bars and where they are made. I'll have to look for one. With all the clearance upcoming on Christmas Candy, Valentine's Candy, and Easter Candy though, getting those items in name brand on clearance will be a better deal. Or naybe not, The two Walmarts local to...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores

Irvine Company must have plans for their spot and tenants lined up otherwise they would have probably negotiated to keep them since it's a highly visible location. Allegedly the rent is nearly $2M per year. Most area Rite Aids are somewhere between $300K-$500K. The store probably isn't producing en...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores

I wouldn't call Los Olivos in Irvine busy. High rent, absolutely and was a very pretty store. But it never did any volume and admittedly when I lived across the street I think I shopped there less than 5 times because it made more sense to drive across the freeway for Target or Walmart. That Whole ...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?

Kroger's flirtations with Chicago have never been serious. They first left 50 years ago and never (apart from Food 4 Less) made any attempts to re-enter the market. They snubbed Dominick's (repeatedly) and if they ever talked to SuperValu there's no public record of it. And since they have Albertso...

Re: Publix in Cincinnati?

Kroger's Cincinnati operation is very different from Kroger's Atlanta operation. Higher operating standards in Cincinnati. Further, at the point Publix went into Atlanta, and during the time period Publix built up its share in Atlanta against Kroger, Kroger did not have Marketplace Stores, did not ...
