Re: Publix in Cincinnati?
I don't think they will do very well in that market. They should go elsewhere. Who doubted Publix would do well in the Atlanta area? Publix displaced Kroger. Kroger's Cincinnati operation is very different from Kroger's Atlanta operation. Higher operating standards in Cincinnati. Further, at the po...

Re: How is Meijer thriving in Detroit when Target/WM can't keep urban stores open?
We’ve discussed this before — the stores were built with theft determent in mind. The store has a single entrance adjacent to the LP & managers’ offices. In most Meijer, LP is required to meet certain goals to maintain their jobs but in Detroit they were offered financial incentives. The food se...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
I would agree with this if Albertsons was having lousy financial results lately but they are really shoring up their results. I think Albertsons is actually looking out for its best interests here and continuing to push for strong financial performance despite the pending merger. This will open up ...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
I worked for 2 Kroger companies, King Soopers and Ralphs. Though King Soopers still reigns, Kroger diluted it after Dillon. Ralphs? Even under Federated it was far superior to what Kroger has done. Sadly, Ralphs has not been able to retain much of its cache like King Soopers was able to...............

Re: Returns Stores
Seems like a common way of selling Amazon returns. I’ve been in several places that used the same concept. One was in a former anchor store at a mall on the border of Iowa/Nebraska - I think it was called Bins. They purchased large pallets from Amazon and allegedly put them on the floor without chec...

Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie
https://www.supermarketnews.com/companies/aldi-us Okay, finally a reliable source.........GEESH! I could only find for the year 2020 It's about 171,000 per week. I'm not buying that either. Has to be less, at least here in SoCal. My guess is their average basket is only $40 tops, could be even less...

Re: Greedflation & Fast Food
Burger King - Whopper. $9.39 (unchanged, but that price point is ridiculous to begin with) McDonald's - Quarter Pounder, $6.39 (up 40 cents) Wendy's - Dave's Single, $6.19 (up 20 cents) Carl's Jr - Famous Star. $5.99 (unchanged, but they did hike the prices of "sides" by 10 to 30 cents) J...

Re: San Clemente Albertsons converting to Pavilions
The apartments off of I-5 and Calle Frontera use to be on the low end of the price spectrum, by South County standards at least. Very dumpy but a relatively short (and steep!) walk from the beach -- maybe the best value for proximity in Orange County. Mostly a young, transient population (lots of ou...

Re: San Clemente Albertsons converting to Pavilions
Gotta admire Albertsons for trying to stay in the game and be competitive. There’s what, three nearby Ralph’s - one that’s relatively new and one that was completely rebuilt - and they dwarf Albertsons in business. Frankly I’m surprised Albertsons was able to keep both stores open for so long… proba...
