Re: Fast Food and Labor Shortages

Sadly, those kiosks and app orders will eliminate jobs. However, if there are no workers willing to work for low wages then the kiosk and apps will help. I have noticed that app ordering makes the wait time a little bit shorter as you do not have to order via a person and pay via the window. I thin...

El Pollo Loco announces expansion and tiny model

https://www.qsrmagazine.com/news/el-pollo-loco-plots-expansion-texas A lot of families dine in at El Pollo Loco in the Reno area (all of the locations) but I have noticed when I go to locations around Sacramento few people dine in and the business seems to be mostly take out. Still this tiny concept...

Fast Food and Labor Shortages

Tonight in Reno I found McDonalds, Carl's Jr., and Jack in the Box all closed in the 8 PM hour. Posted closing times are between 10 PM and Midnight. McDonalds still had 3-4 employees inside, but blocked off drive through and closed inside, all the lights were still on. Not sure what was going on the...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

Costa Mesa, CA Kmart closure announced... I think this will be the last of Kmart in SoCal? Then 3 Kmarts will remain in NorCal: Freedom Grass Valley South Lake Tahoe Or basically 3 Kmarts left in the entire western/intermountain/southwest half of the US (unless you go ahead and count Hamilton, MT in...

Re: Raleys converting Reno Store to ONE Market Format

Went to this store this afternoon. Quite a few customers. Easily 40-50 customers present shopping. Few customers buying more than a bag or two of items. Store was very well staffed (employees probably outnumbered customers). Despite all the negative reviews people are still coming to this store.

Re: Food Source (Raleys) closing Reno, NV

Went back to this IGA again today. Pretty similar to previous visits. No more than about 5 customers in the store in the afternoon. 2 cashiers and a couple other employees. Produce area is no longer fully stocked and continues to have stuff there that is rotting. Meat area is still no more than 20% ...

Re: Albertsons marks ‘transformational year’ in fiscal 2020

Albertsons had a very good year and they clearly took the opportunity they had in 2020 to try to build market share by increasing staffing, running strong promotions, and taking some opportunities to build/remodel stores. They had some problems with in-stock during the pandemic but they seemed to re...

Re: Kroger- self checkout modification

Some retailers disabled the weight sensor on self checkout. I can only wonder how much shrink they have... Wal Mart and Target specifically. CVS is actually able to go into the admin screen of self checkout and disable the weight sensor- any clerk who can log in to the self checkout can disable the ...

Re: Discussion: Convenience stores / gasoline retailers

There was a time in the past where Sam's Gas was a .05 upcharge for non members and open to the public. That changed years ago and they are members only unless local law dictates otherwise. How far in the past are you referring to? Was it nationwide or only in selected markets? From what I know, Ne...

Re: 7-Eleven to buy Stripes

Some of those aren't exactly 1:1 comparisons. QT, in my experience, builds nice, flagship stores with gas pumps along major highways, whereas 7-Eleven doesn't build "flagship" stores (except the larger stores they acquired from other operators, 7-Eleven OK, Stripes, etc.), the new-builds ...
