Re: Winchester/Front Royal: Martin's Monopoly?

I remember when Weis moved into the DC market the first time around int he late 80s and early 90s. Germantown and Gaithersburg in MD and Chantilly, Centreville, Manassas and Woodbridge in VA. My family was familiar with Weis since my mother is from PA. Other than that there was zero reason back the...

Kroger- self checkout modification

I noticed Kroger is installing new self checkouts in some locations to replace more regular checkstands. These are giant things that take up the space of a regular checkstand where you walk up and there is a scanner then after you scan the item there is a conveyor belt which turns itself on and the ...

Re: Raleys converting Reno Store to ONE Market Format

Raley's really should not have converted a successful store to this new format. I like to buy "clean" products, too, but if my Safeway decided to become a Whole Foods clone called Safeway I'd be angry, too. Sounds like they did zero research into sales data at that store. They could easil...

Re: Raleys converting Reno Store to ONE Market Format

https://www.yelp.com/biz/raleys-o-n-e-market-reno Yep, similar to the El Dorado one, the reviews have panned it so far(the reviews for that one are 3 of 18 positive). Maybe they should've focused on building new stores with this concept, and not changing established ones. It's like in baseball, Ral...

Re: Coronavirus and Empty Restaurants

My point was that Oregon is responding to their Covid uptick (one of the few States trending in the wrong direction right now). Closing indoor dining is not the right response. The restaurant industry has had enough in the past year (what is left of it). Cut the capacity, cut it to 25%, etc. but at...

Re: Raleys converting Reno Store to ONE Market Format

What do you mean by "bad banned foods"? The tens and thousands of items they pulled from the store. It isn't just stuff on their "banned ingredients list" - it is stuff that has ingredients that are perfectly acceptable per their list but have, for instance, too high of a sugar ...

Re: Raleys converting Reno Store to ONE Market Format

The Reno conversion is done. They took what was a great large well merchandised Raleys and turned it into a large, overly spacious, under-merchandised, oddly merchandised "ONE Market." They took out some aisles, shortened the length of some aisles, and shortened the height of some aisles. ...

Re: 7-Eleven to buy Stripes

The problem is with 7-Eleven's US Store Network. If they tried to run many of these stores as corporate operated sites they'd end up shutting down because they would lose money. The franchise model works because the franchisee, franchisee's spouse, and other family members/friends of the franchisees...

They don't even have a now hiring sign up... (like almost every other service business has- many now advertising the hourly wage).

Re: 7-Eleven to buy Stripes

7-Eleven has a new store in Ridgefield, WA only a few months old. It is not an "evolution store" but it is twice the size of a usual 7-Eleven. I went in when it must have been on or near opening day. They had lots of employees, various dispensed beverage equipment all in working order, cle...
