Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration

We know Michigan has been a tough market and the economy there has been pretty iffy for quite some time. Maybe in 10, 20 years we will see the Harris Teeter stores so similar to a standard Kroger that they could do a banner change. At this point, the formats are just simply much too different. Ther...

Re: Confusion: Albertsons - Safeway

I'm not too sure the Albertsons banner had very many markets that could be described as strong. WinCo (along with new entrants like Whole Foods) was taking customers right and left in Boise. Southern Idaho was absolutely not a strong market for them as evidenced by the sale of the stores in Burley ...

Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration

Albertsons gave stores to United for geographic reasons. Albertsons also made a series of changes to the divisions over its own stores for geographic reasons also at the same time. It had nothing to do with what division was a better operator than the other. For instance, before the Safeway merger,...

Re: Lawsuit over Albertsons deceptive meat promotions

I don't expect the lawsuit to get anywhere (if this were California I may have a different thought). In any case it highlights this deceptive pricing practice and will hopefully put a stop to it. It is unfortunate it came to this. Albertsons should have never done this type of thing in the first pl...

Re: Confusion: Albertsons - Safeway

I wonder if converting stores to Safeway allows them to get out of their obligations with Supervalu faster. Supervalu obviously won't have anything to do with a store bannered Safeway... I still think they will do what will be best for their top and bottom lines. And I think converting stores to Sa...

Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration

I never heard anything about Hiller's or heard anyone with particularly good things to say about it except for you, here, on this message board. The news articles quoting customers were pretty similar to those that discussed Albertsons take down of Paul's. Reading Yelp reviews and other sources is ...

Re: Confusion: Albertsons - Safeway

I can't see them trying to convert a store in the market to Safeway this early in the game (they're just now integrating and haven't split from SVU entirely yet). As for SuperValu-related problems, most of the entire chain's names are damaged in one way or another, and they certainly aren't going to...

Re: Southeastern Grocers refocusing Harvey's Supermarket banner

Sounds like they're trying to weed out the worst/dated of the W-D stores by converting them to another concept. Probably a good idea, but it always strikes me as problematic when a company tries to push the low-end stuff and/or salvage stuff that should've closed instead.

Re: The Fresh Market closing all Texas stores.

I'm not really surprised by this. One of the TFM stores in Houston was right next to a Central Market store. TFM stores run, max, 20,000sf. The Central Market store outpaces TFM in size and volume easily; without stepping up their store size and average sales, there was no way they were ever going ...

Re: Confusion: Albertsons - Safeway

I guess this could fall under non-region specific since in many areas both stores are still in the market (or one of the former Safeway run brands). Yesterday, my mom told me that her sister told her that the Albertsons store in a portion of the (southern) Idaho city I grew up in was becoming Safew...
