Meanwhile in Canada, they're building Malls
Mount Royal, QC is going to have a new 170 store mall opening this August. Everything about it looks like a regular, indoor mall. It's going to be more luxury focused despite being built in an "industrial wasteland" between two highways jammed with traffic. They don't seem to have any qual...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
I still think they have this backwards out west… SpinCo based on Fred Meyer/Smith’s/Ralph’s/Fry’s/King Soopers would probably be the best thing. I’m not quite sure what they do in Utah and Montana though - possibly keep the Smith’s name there? In this scenario, Kroger gets all the Safeway locations...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
It looks like they've reached a bankruptcy settlement. Hopefully they exit rapidly. We should hear confirmation of this today or tomorrow. Interesting that the news reports specifically of settlements with both the DOJ and McKesson. My only concern is if that means they are going to have to cash ou...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Likely they'll gonna try to go for the 600+ store package to C&S instead of the 400+ store package. How many of those are in Colorado though...? My guess is they'll try to meter out the remaining 230 or so divests based on which states are screaming the loudest. It still won't solve the fundame...

Re: Restaurant Adoption of pay-by-phone systems
Flip side as discussed in the other thread, the QR code payments for restaurants are both causing massive losses for restaurants as well as fraud. The ones using physical stickers are getting hit with fake sticker attacks that divert the customer to a fake payment site so they think they've paid bu...

Re: McDonald's and Krispy Kreme
I have tried the Krispy Kreme donuts at Walmart that are supposedly delivered every morning. They seem decently fresh. Maybe there would be a delivery truck driving to every McDonald's in the morning. I assume that McDonald's would heat up the donuts either like the chocolate chip cookies or the ho...

Unfortunately the links are broken. Yeah sorry about that, I posted that from my phone and now I can't seem to fix it so here you go. Picture Store Tour Hi Market Report Blog, as you seem to be on the other side of the country, here is a link to a LARGE Kroger-owned store built from the ground up w...

Re: 31k sq ft Macys to open in Elk Grove, CA
I think these small formats are another sort of throw random stuff out there and see what works thing. But if they are cheap enough to run... worth a try... Not much appeal to the one I saw in Las Vegas and they aren't spending much on build out. Really bare bones in there. That Vegas one looks tin...
