Re: 7-Eleven buying large chunk of Sunoco

My sister in law from Utah visited us last week, and we spent the weekend down in Charlotte. I made a point of stopping in at a QuikTrip while we were down there just so she could see the two entire walls full of fountain drinks and coffees/teas they have. She actually lives right near a fairly nice...

Re: 7-Eleven buying large chunk of Sunoco

Currently there are 3 7-Elevens in Greensboro, all of which are new builds which have opened in 2021 or later. Out of these, two have already accumulated a fair number of 1 star Google reviews (mostly for not being open during what should be regular business hours but a few are things like accusatio...

Re: Gov Newsom leaves Panera Exempt from CA Min Wage?

I could theoretically see Jimmy John's trying to claim an exemption as they have sold their leftover bread from the day before for something like 50¢ per loaf for some time, but I suspect the resulting "bad optics" would outweigh any cost savings that might result from it.

Re: 7-Eleven buying large chunk of Sunoco

What I've noticed about Sunoco around here is that they tend to be found only associated with generic/unbranded convenience stores, most of them rural and a grade or two below even the older 7-Eleven stores. I suspect that they maintain a token presence in NC mostly due to their association with NAS...

Re: Eddie Bauer dumbs down logo for GenZ

Yesterday I was in an Eddie Bauer store for the first time in a while, and was somewhat surprised to see that the new logo was basically non-existent. Out of the entire store, I think I saw all of one item that even had the new logo on it, and that wasn't even clothing. Given the fact that the logo...

Re: Fast Food Nation, the book

I seem to recall Chipotle pushing this book in their stores as part of the heavy virtue signaling they were engaged in a year or so before they had their huge food safety scandal in 2018.

Knott's Berry Farm jams discontinued

https://www.today.com/food/news/knotts-berry-farm-grocery-brand-discontinued-rcna135353 The Knott's Berry Farm brand of jams has quietly been discontinued by the JM Smucker Company. The cookies sold under the same brand name are licensed to a different company, and are still being produced. In the m...

Re: Target "Self Checkout Hours" 11 AM to 7 PM

After several visits it seems to me the Target I shop at (Greensboro Lawndale) does pretty consistently keep at least three regular checkstands open, although this is a store with only four self checkout lanes (plus one in the "snack bar" area.) One thing I've noticed about this store is t...

Re: Walmart 2023 Closings

Sounds a lot like the situation at Factoria (Bellevue WA), where a Walmart went into a former Mervyn's space (single level, about 70k SF) next door to an existing Target. The Walmart store was small (probably the smallest "Supercenter" store I've seen), awkward, and did poorly enough that ...
