Re: Retail Slowdown

The 80s were when malls really homogenized, which was probably the beginning of their downward slide--every mall came to have the same stores and people easily moved on to a new mall if their old one wasn't keeping up or was in an area that had seen better days. By then, the developers had had dwin...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores

For instance, in this area you have some that were Rite Aid, then taken over by Walgreens and then closed (so it may look like a closed Rite Aid but is really a closed Walgreens), and you also had closings when Rite Aid took over Eckerd (stores from both chains closed, many times due to being near ...

Re: Safeway NorCal Remodels and New Stores

They’re still expanding the gourmet Andronicos name in Norcal - this one opened in Sea Cliff SF earlier this year with yet another project from the College of Western Idaho design students who did the Pavilions package Some of those aisles look quite narrow and not to nitpick too much but why didn'...

Kinney is employee owned and is one of those chains that goes where the majors wouldn't even consider. They're a good store.

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

Since StanleyBlack&Decker bought Craftsman, most of the production shifted to their facilities. I will say the Craftsman power tools seem to be a bit better than DeWalt - haven’t had the battery issues I’ve had with DeWalt (yet). Our local Napa in Dayton can warranty Craftsman that is purchased...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers

Spent some time in Va. back in SFW's heyday and found them to be sort of an enigma. While their name could imply deep discount, I really didn't see that. Their pricing wasn't especially high but nothing they offered would really bring someone in vs. another chain. Honestly, what did/do they stand for?

Re: Dollar General is putting workers' safety at risk, Labor Department says

And the aisles are just so narrow and shelving so high to begin with that there literally isn't enough room for two customers to pass each other. And then add overflow freight to the mix and you're just asking for trouble. Still with all that said, their stores are usually always busy. Honestly thou...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

I think part of the benefit for the old Sears exchange was Sears knew any time the customer came to the store, was a potential to sell them something else. I have an entire pouch of Craftsman wrenches which belonged to my Father. They are beyond old but look just as good as the day they were purcha...

Re: Rite Aid

I can't remember which chain, but several years ago, my parents had a prescription for an out of stock drug and the pharmacist called around to other stores to see if any of them had it in stock. They even went so far as to call other chain drug stores and I can't recall if they got it from another ...
