Re: 2023 Lidl closings
I have a feeling Shoppers will weasel back as they have been lately. How ironic and full circle would that be if Shoppers reopened the Oxon Hill/District Heights and Brooklyn Park locations? Both are in areas that don't have a lot of grocery options. At least there is a Safeway further down Oxon Hi...

Re: 2023 Lidl closings
I do not understand why they are closing all of these stores. I cannot see how it makes sense to just shut down stores like this when they need critical mass to be viable in the market. If they need to scale back stores like close/scale back bakery or take out some meat/refrigeration they probably ...

Re: Amazon Halts All New Amazon Fresh Just Walk Out Stores
It's most likely that the landlord is the one running the construction, not Amazon. Their lease probably has requirements for Landlord to build and Amazon to pay on delivery. Seeing that Amazon is already getting into legal issues with other landlords where they're walking away from unopened Fresh ...

Re: 2023 Lidl closings
Add District Heights, MD/Oxon Hill, MD to the closing list. The store is right at the border between the two areas. https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2023/07/12/lidl-closing-district-heights-store-others.html This is one of the Shoppers locations that Lidl purchased in 2019/2020. Brooklyn ...

Re: Christmas Tree Shops files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
We had an andThat! location in Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax, VA for less than a year. Apparently andThat! is a brand they use in areas not familiar with the Christmas Tree Shops name. andThat! opened in December 2017 and didn't even make it to the next Christmas holiday season. I visited an...

Re: Amazon Halts All New Amazon Fresh Just Walk Out Stores
Why is Amazon still building Fresh stores if they are so tentative on opening the stores? Amazon is in the process of constructing a new Fresh store in Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax, VA. The are taking over spaces occupied by World Market and a closed Off Saks Fifth Avenue. World Market move...

Re: Walmart observations
Wal Mart produce is not good and not even well priced in most cases. I can pick up a few random things there like green onions or bananas that are priced low and not have issues. Was buying vine tomatoes for a number of months as the local store had USA sourced ones at .98/lb but they've moved it b...

Re: Walmart observations
The Walmart Neighborhood Market stores in San Ramon and Pleasanton, California are doing good food sales. However, this is at the expense of the Walmart Division 1 store in Pleasanton. That bigger store which is not a Supercenter, is having dismal sales. Food brings customers in to shop the rest of...

Re: Walmart observations
The neighborhood markets that you see getting remodeled and have the "(insert city name here) Market" sign are apparently doing very well and all are $30M or more, which shocks me. Source: SM of a Southern California neighborhood market that is over $50M and higher volume than nearby orig...

Giant-MD President Ira Kress says it may be forced to close stores if retail theft continues
https://wtop.com/local/2023/06/landover-based-giant-foods-will-be-forced-to-close-stores-if-uptick-in-crime-continues-companys-president-says/ I don't do a lot of shopping at Giant-MD anymore. When I have been in Giant-MD I have noticed that stores with dual entrances have one entrance closed off to...
