Re: 2023 Lidl closings
This story has taken an interesting turn, particularly for the Maryland stores: https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2023/07/21/lidl-plans-new-prince-georges-market.html This new location on Queens Chapel Road seems to have less non-ethnic grocery competition than the Oxon Hill store did. Pl...

Re: In N Out Bans Employee Masks in NV/CO/TX/UT/AZ
Not every employer is for everyone. Due to my personal beliefs there are many employers who I wouldn't even think of working for due to not buying in to their "value system." This would include various religious and political organizations for example. Many such organizations only hire &q...

Re: 2023 Lidl closings
I think that veteran+ is on to something with the arrogance that is described in Fresh and Easy also being in the Lidl management and thought processes. Personally I like the Lidl stores because of their pricing being along the lines of Aldi but having a bit more product selection. There is a guessi...

Re: ACME replacing ShopRite in East Norriton
From what I see, Albertsons is running very strong ads and a lot of loss leaders via app and/or coupon offers in basically every one of their markets. Everyday pricing continues to be quite awful. You basically go for the loss leaders and don't touch anything else because the pricing is so terrible...

Re: Weis?
A modern Weis store is along the lines of Giant-MD or Safeway. In that sense I do agree that Weis might be a candidate to pick up some Safeway stores if the merger goes through and Harris Teeter is the surviving entity in the DC area. If Weis is interested in more growth in the DC market, cast off s...

Re: Weis?
Weis seems to do well in rural areas and in suburban areas where there is not a lot of competition. Weis tried to get into the DC market in the late 1980s but got blasted by Giant-MD who was firing on all cylinders at that point. More recently, Weis purchased a bunch of Food Lion stores in MD, DE an...

Re: Walmart observations
I just don't understand why Target effectively copied this removal of subtitles from Walmart, and has everything from 10,000 Sq ft to 170,000+ Sq ft with the same sign either. Something is shifting with this new "upscale" Walmart prototype. I'm interested in seeing the finished article in...

Re: Walmart observations
My guess is that the Spark with little Walmart letters is a failure. No one pays attention to that ugly spark logo. People are attracted to an easily readable Walmart sign. Walmart will probably spend the money on the larger Walmart signs. I do believe Walmart realizes that switching to complete se...

Re: ACME replacing ShopRite in East Norriton
Giant-MD/Super G's tag phrase back then was "The Quality Food People". That was on the front of almost every Giant-MD store that was built. Anyone know what Shop N' Save used as a phrase then? (since the Super G's briefly became Shop N Save stores) Now this is bothering me lol. I agree th...

Re: 2023 Lidl closings
Fresh & Easy did the same thing with their arrogant prototype fixation. The funny "karma" about that is, the few stores that they opened in former supermarkets (like Palm Springs) were the highest volume and most profitable. ;) This got me thinking about Lidl's statistics when it come...
