Re: Costco CEO since 2012 steps aside
Just because you're not aware of anything changing with cards and such doesn't mean it isn't happening. There is a industry wide push for barcode elimination on anything related to memberships, payment types etc. because they're not secure and easily replicated for cheating purposes. I still can't ...

Re: Bealls Outlet pushing ratings
GM dealers do the same thing in the service department. When COVID hit, I had a warranty issue, and the local dealership basically ended shuttle service and did not offer any assistance with a rental car, I had to bypass the dealer and contact GM directly, who reimbursed me for the rental. GM gets ...

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany
Also, on the topic of Shop Rite, Wakefern started opening Price Rite stores around the DC area about five or so years ago. However, they have now closed all of those stores. I had wondered if the Price Rite stores were an initial entry into the market that would later include regular Shop Rite stor...

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany
My guess with the Food Lion purchase is that it was a package deal, and Weis went into it knowing that some stores would be losers. I mean, 38 stores is a lot of stores, especially for an operator that has under 200 stores. And I agree with you on the loan, too; Weis rarely takes on loans or things...

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany
Now onto Weis strategy. If the buyer is in fact Weis, I think your assessment is spot on. I would not at all be surprised if they were interested in acquiring many of those former Big V and current SRS stores, and possibly others, to expand their presence into the Hudson Valley and Capital Region. ...

Re: Safeway Operations
I noticed that the local San Francisco Bay Area Safeway stores no longer have deli soda fountains. They used to have tiny versions of the Coca Cola Freestyle machines. I also noticed that Safeway is adding some new shopping carts. These are black plastic that look like the old Lifestyle shopping ca...

Re: Walmart observations
Also do you see any Wal Mart delis with Dietz and Watson program in service deli? Wonder if this is widespread or isolates. Never seen a Walmart deli with anything other than Prima Della. I'm not sure I'd trust Walmart to keep up a program like Dietz and Watson. The couple times I tried getting any...

Re: Denny's Drive-Thru
You might order at the window and they will tell you to drive back after 20 minutes. In the mean time you will have to either park in the parking lot or find somewhere else to go. This might appeal to a person eating alone, but if you have multiple people it would be more pleasant to just go inside...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: Northeast Impact
Item by item the Acme pricing is not necessarily good. It isn't clear what items are sale prices and what aren't. When you get into PA and you look at Giant-PA pricing vs. Acme pricing, Acme pricing is mostly quite a bit higher, but they have some good specials to help buffer that somewhat. I actua...
