Re: Rite Aid Buys Bartell Drugs
My guess is that the youngest generation at Bartell's were a big part of pulling the plug. That's usually how this sort of thing ends. Older family who have invested decades will keep an underperforming family business going but once they retire there's no one willing to do that, or else they don't...

Re: Rite Aid Buys Bartell Drugs
Sad day for the Seattle area. But, I suspect that the shift of workers to their suburban homes, decrease in ability to use any pharmacy you'd like, etc. made this a good time to go. Some Bartell stores are relatively near Seattle area Rite Aid stores, right? But I haven't lived up there in some yea...

Re: Walmart+
I've been surrounded by a lot of Walmart+ ads recently. They don't lay out what it means, other than it is "a different kind of membership program" or something close to that in messaging for now. I suppose the idea is that if you were a Walmart shopper (especially Walmart.com) you'll stum...

Re: Bulk Foods and Self Serve Food Bars
I've found the products in the Wal Mart Bakery with the Marketside label on them are very good quality. I've had various items (cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cream pies, croissants) and the only one I wasn't real thrilled with was the muffins. Also they have some rectangle cobblers that are quite excel...

New WinCo Foods locations out of Shopko Bankruptcy
It sounds like WInCo bought the buildings, I guess from the bankruptcy court or REIT? 1) Bend, Ore. 2) Eugene, Ore. (3rd in Eugene-Springfield area) 3) Missoula, Mont. (across street from Rosauers) 4) Wenatchee, Wash. *New store: Centralia, Wash. (Centralia Station, wasn't this originally Fred Meyer...

Re: WinCo moving into former Kmart in Ontario, Oregon
The F4L in Bend has skewed a little away from the low price warehouse type of pricing and merchandising and more toward a natural/organic bend at lower prices for those items. Smart niche. Being adjacent the only Trader Joe's for hundreds of miles (and usually the entrance point into the community ...

WinCo repurposing closed Shopko into new store
It appears some of the old Shopko buildings may have better lives than just as climate controlled self storage... WinCo Foods is renovating the Bend, Ore. storefront and parking lot to open in late 2020. The company is continuing on, despite concerns locally that the COVID-19 Pandemic may have stall...

North Texas Kroger employees receive a raise under latest agreement
Apparently Kroger is the only North Texas grocer with a union. https://www.dallasnews.com/business/retail/2020/09/15/kroger-hourly-workers-get-a-raise-with-new-contract/ According to the last paragraph and indeed.com, worker pay at Kroger starts at $10-12 in the region. Oof. (on a personal note, I d...
