Re: Sam's Crackdown on Membership Sharing
I'm still confused as to why Costco, who gives away free membership at new store openings and has a perpetual $25 first year campaign with other freebies and a fat coupon book, I have never heard of Costco giving away free or severely reduced memberships in any recent history. They used to do a she...

Re: What's Office Depot's future
The only way I see either chain surviving long term is if they shrink their stores down to something maybe a bit larger than a 'Fedex Office/UPS store' sized space and focus on services like printing, shipping, and perhaps a very abbreviated selection of office supplies.

Re: Sam's Crackdown on Membership Sharing
I'm more surprised that it took Sam's this long to do something like this, especially given their technology. I've only gone into Sam's a few times (when I had the $8 'Super Bowl' membership promo a few years back). I was given a physical card which had nothing other than a barcode on it, and never ...

Re: Costco Door Scanning Rolling Out
Costco self checkout is terrible since there are no handheld scanners. I had to lift huge items onto the scanner and then onto the weighing pad. There are so many heavy bulk items at Costco. I would rather have a cashier at a compact cash register scan my items. It is a time consuming process to li...

Re: Costco Door Scanning Rolling Out
If I had to guess the real technological rush will be getting the self checkout register to show the pictures while the member is checking out so they can see if a non member managed to get in and borrow a card. The best solution would be for Costco to follow the lead of other retailers and severel...

Re: Kroger shuttering distribution spoke in Miami
This and Austin seem like pretty high profile retreats. Obviously they didn't understand the Miami market and probably didn't have the right merchandise mix. Or you know, actual locations  I wonder how much market share Kroger has with their delivery-only business...I can't imagine it bein...

Re: Target Pricing - San Francisco vs. other areas
I wonder how much of this is attributable to theft, versus other factors making San Francisco a high-cost area of doing business such as real estate, taxes, wages, etc... I'm always hesistant to point price increases at a sole contributory cause unless the company outright states that "we've r...

Re: Macys Closing Stores by 2026
None of the PA stores are surprising at all...they are all dead or quickly dying malls. I stopped in the mall in Altoona a few years ago and just from peeking in the Macy's, it seemed to be very, very lightly stocked.

Re: JoAnn-"restructuring"
Yep, I've seen a handful of people in my social media feeds today reacting to the news by mentioning how they are going to miss JoAnn or "at least Michaels and Hobby Lobby will still be around." Let's face it though, how many companies, especially retail companies, survive Chapter 11 long...
