Re: Bank Branches Inside Supermarkets

This is a really interesting blog about retail banking and how it's changing. Interesting deep-dives into specific lines of business. The topics are things which we may do every day but never think about what's behind.

Re: Hollywood Markets Rochester, MI Closing

Did not know what you meant by Chaldean families but this article helped me understand. https://www.chaldeannews.com/features-1/2020/4/29/open-for-business I notice many of these stores I am looking at that are independents are selling Essential Everyday. Has it always been that way? I thought in t...

Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie

There's been an interesting migration of Aldi in the last 45-50 years in St. Louis (and I'm sure in the Benner Iowa/Illinois areas) from their original location (an example is a location on Manchester in Warson Woods which was Schnucks' first 10k sqft supermarket from 1950-ish. Aldi used this as one...

Re: Hollywood Markets Rochester, MI Closing

No, the building in front (facing Livernois) is a smaller business building (with the initial intention of keeping a streetscape with sidewalk access). Storefronts like a wig store, vacuum cleaner store (which recently closed), etc. Quite liable to be re-tenanted soon with more upscale stores Facing...

Re: Grocery Outlet-Inventory levels

Believe that's the history of the location. They have a really creative soft drink/chips display up for Super Bowl (much more creative displays than the Palm Springs store) which makes a certain amount of sense since DSD stuff is likely not running through their warehouse.

Re: Walmart announces major new store opening and remodel initiative

I could see some effort to do Neighborhood Markets in under-penetrated regions for them (Upper Midwest particularly)...where they have a single Supercenter, putting a NM on the other side of town (somewhat akin to what Meijer is doing with Fresh Thyme on a less upscale side)--some of those mid-sized...

Re: Grocery Outlet-Inventory levels

I am actually willing to cut a little slack in this case for that unit because the road conditions are so bad due to the construction (believe it's a sewer rebuild after the flooding last year)...it is a nightmare to access the store now which has doubtless negatively impacted traffic in the store a...

Re: Burlingame Fred Meyer sign demolished

The B of Burlingame looks just like the B used by Bettendorf in St. Louis

Must have been the 1950s style.
