Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
Kroger Mid-Atlantic and Harris Teeter acquiring Farm Fresh stores were to benefit them instead of Publix. If Publix acquired Farm Fresh stores, Kroger Mid-Atlantic and Harris Teeter would have issues. That I know now. It seems like a friendly, yet quite a competitive mode in your words. I'm certain...

Re: Target using lowercase "target" on full-scale stores
As this has been going around some retail discussion outlets as of late, I would like to share my comments on this change at Target. To clarify my opinion, I honestly dislike this change to Target’s branding. This new logo of theirs just makes the brand feel weak and perhaps pivot too much to their ...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
Publix has not entered Norfolk yet. After Publix acquired Martin's stores in the Richmond area, the Kroger Company went on notice. When SuperValu put Farm Fresh stores up for sale, the Kroger Company's Kroger Mid-Atlantic and Harris Teeter divisions acquired a quantity of stores. The acquisition al...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
Essentially Farm Fresh is a franchised name, and uses SuperValu as a supplier. If they broke from SuperValu, then they would probably lose it (or it might end up becoming County Market). I think part of the reason why Publix passed on Farm Fresh is probably the logistics of acquiring even more stor...

Re: Dunkin' Donuts Dropping Donuts In Name
Not a fan of this one either. While many know Dunkin for the donuts they have, as well as coffee I see it as another example of weak simplification of chains. Having the Donuts as well honestly makes the chain have more class and even at that - is half the ring to their classic name. That being sai...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
I don't think that Shoppers will be sold whole. My guess is that the better half will split between Safeway, Weis, Giant, and a few independents, with the other half closing altogether. (I can't imagine Publix going for them, not if they turned down Farm Fresh). I could assume that as well, why not...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
Shop Rite is probably the right buyer... I think they would continue the stores similar to Shoppers in mix/format/product quality (very average and mid market), and to some degree sharpen them up on pricing. I could certainly understand. The question is though, how will it fit into their franchise ...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
I will point out that the average Shoppers is slightly more productive on a "market share per store" basis than Safeway in either Washington or Baltimore. I am also surprised how productive Harris Teeter is on a "market share per store" basis as their stores in Washington are no...

Re: Dunkin' Donuts Dropping Donuts In Name
It's now official: https://news.dunkindonuts.com/news/releases-20180925 "Donuts" is now being officially dropped from the name. In some cases, it appears that the name is even being shortened to "DNKN". Not a fan of this one either. While many know Dunkin for the donuts they hav...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
For now Shoppers closings have not been in remission to my knowledge, however more locations could be rumored at getting the axe whether to a new grocery suitor or to other purposes. The Centreville, VA store is becoming a CGX (Coast Guard Exchange) store while another in Sterling, VA is likely beco...
