Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
I am wondering if Rite Aid could be a nice way for Loblaws to establish more of a presence in the US outside it's T&T Supermarket opening. Loblaws does operate Shopper's Drug Mart! If Rite Aid does declare bankruptcy, could Loblaws acquire them and not have to pay the government opioid settlemen...

Bellis Fair Mall Bellingham, WA Sold
Today, I was looking at the Brookfield Properties website to see what retail properties they own. I know that in the Puget Sound area, they own Westlake Center, Alderwood Mall and The Shops at The Bravern. But I noticed the Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham, WA was no longer on the list. So this is act...

Re: Did Plaid Pantry quietly get sold?
One thing I find interesting about Plaid Pantry is that they have held on to one single location on Lower Queen Anne Hill in Seattle for about 25-30 years now. I remember that they had started to make inroads into Puget Sound. Plus they had become a Am/Pm franchisee. The plan had been to convert all...

Re: C&S new stores in the PNW
I'm 99% sure that the stores will be called QFC but they will need to overcome a perception of having high prices. I expect that the high prices will remain under this scheme, so there's not much need to overcome any perception of it. In the areas where QFC hasn’t traditionally been, Eastern Washin...

Re: C&S new stores in the PNW
Idaho is one area where I would expect them to keep the Albertsons name, given that's where the chain started, and the fact they have an existing store base. I could see Albertsons and Fred Meyer co-existing in markets such as Boise. Safeway has faded away already in the southern part of Idaho, but...

Re: LOI signed for new Albertsons in Ardmore, OK
Now that we see the Kroger gets the Albertsons name everywhere except CA, AZ, CO &WY, do you think this will open as an Albertsons before the merger is done? Or will it open as a Kroger?

Re: Westfield San Francisco Centre
The mall has been stripped of the Westfield name. There are huge areas of abandoned stores. The Nordstrom is empty and the Emporium Dome area is deserted. This mall is a dead mall now. It was totally different even back in 2019. Back then business was booming and tech workers and tourists packed th...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
They have explicitly stated: #1 - no spin offs, Spinco, etc. They're now a no-spin zone period. #2 - C&S has the first right to buy all of the remaining 231 stores that may or may not be sold. So, unless C&S doesn't take the 2nd wave of stores nobody else will be joining this deal. Furtherm...

C&S new stores in the PNW
So, if the FTC does let the Kroger Albertsons merger go through, there will be 180 stores in WA, OR, ID, AK in need of a new banner. Plus a small handful in UT & MT. C&S will own the rights to the QFC name plus the vast majority of the actual stores. Compared to the time before Kroger bought...
