Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
Only one in North San Diego County: Encinitas (Santa Fe/I-5), which is a former Thrifty located next to a Vons (former Safeway). The Vons in the same center does not have a pharmacy.

Re: Lack of Whole Foods North County San Diego
The Gelsons customer skews older and very rich. I should warn I might be mixing up the Del Mar and the La Jolla Gelsons as to which is the top in their relatively new SD County market, but they both were considered "strong" while the La Costa location was "weak" and problematic ...

Re: FTC Sues to block Kroger-Albertsons merger
As expected, the FTC has thrown its full weight against the merger - I think this is the coup de grâce... https://www.cnbc.com/2024/02/26/ftc-sues-to-block-kroger-albertsons-grocery-store-merger.html It was filed in U.S. District Court in Oregon which that article doesn't mention. Very smart. Crazy...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
Could they just rebrand some of these to Giant-PA format? Stop & Shop is very weak. Market Basket has been kicking them around for years. What I find strange is Hannaford seems to have smaller stores but seems run better and is more effective. I am not sure what the issue with Stop & Shop i...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
I don't think Meijer would do well in Denver for a variety of mix reasons also. Hy Vee would have a better shot but to get the necessary mass of stores in the market would be very challenging. As you’ve said before, Meijer would give Giant Eagle a lot of trouble in Pittsburgh… I’d think they will g...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
I think there was also some confusion with Kroger if they should go into FL with Kroger Marketplace format or go in with Harris Teeter. I would have gone in with a few well placed Kroger Marketplace units and designed them as destination stores that could have done $2 million a week in sales (would...

Re: Thrifty Ice Cream now at Vons/Albertsons
So far a limited number of flavors. 5.99 regular price 5.49 sale price. Hope they don't get control of this product and reformulate it like their Lucerne and Signature Ice Creams, both are terrible quality ice cream. Similar to their terrible quality store brand breads. At least this should calm do...
