Re: J.C. Penney hires former Shopko executive to aid turnaround

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-j-c-penney-explores-223216857.html Looks like JCP should have kept stores open under limited hours in states or cities with no "stay at home order." What about online sales? They have a functioning website, so I can't understand why they have not be...

Re: Coronavirus and wearing masks in stores

Reno is trying to pass a law that all store employees and all restaurant employees must wear masks (and gloves) within the city. It is unclear if this will actually be passed or not. But nothing forcing customers to wear masks (supposedly they want to make this rule, but it is outside their powers t...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

In another interesting development, I saw a story yesterday about Restaurant Depot (a B to B foodservice wholesaler) temporarily opening their stores to the general public: https://boingboing.net/2020/04/13/wholesale-restaurant-supply-ch.html Granted, this isn't going to be practical for most peopl...

Re: Coronavirus and Meat Processing Plants

Nothing snide about it. But it is potentially relevant to the topic. Keep following the money, as it is quite a long trail. Then again, we don't know who has the actual power to make the decision close the plant. If it is management at HQ, if it was threats from the state, or a decision of the US ba...

Re: Kroger "big announcement coming" on branding

The new logo is appearing on certain private label products now. They are putting the new logo font into a flatter oval (not quite as flat as a Ralphs oval, but closer).

I don't like it. I like the old logo better and I don't think they should change it.

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

Went to Smiths tonight. This particular location seems to do a really good job getting restocked. They restocked paper towels, napkins, and kleenex in limited brands. Still no toilet paper. The cleaning aisle is also much improved but still has its share of outs. The rest of the store, it was basica...

Re: AMC Theaters expected to file for bankruptcy

This may well be the end for the movie theater business in general. They were already a really rough business to make money in. Too easy to get content to users in other ways, reach more users, albeit at a lower price, but with much less overhead. I did not know about the ownership of AMC. They don'...

Coronavirus and Meat Processing Plants

How will all this impact the food chain? Looks like assorted closures at various plants where there have been outbreaks. As expected with meat processing, most of these plants are in remote and not so dense geographic locations that do not have many cases of the virus overall. https://www.beefmagazi...

Re: Coronavirus and masks in stores

It appears there are also various instances of mask theft happening. https://www.rgj.com/story/news/nation/2020/03/23/n-95-respirator-thousands-masks-stolen-amid-coronavirus-police-say/2896970001/ https://www.kolotv.com/video?vid=569499192 Maybe there need to be some very stiff criminal penalties (m...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

It seems a little excessive right now to be pushing high cost fruit trays (aren't those for large gatherings, which I would assume have been banned by the Governor of MI), bacon wrapped filets, etc. at a time when people are focusing so hard on the basics. I suppose if the store is well stocked othe...
