Re: Sears/Kmart Death Watch 2017

Thought this one would last until the end: Sears in Colonie Center Albany, NY closing by the end of September. It was an original anchor when the mall opened in the '60's. I believe Sears developed that mall if memory serves. I'm surprised BillyGr didn't scoop me on this one.

Re: Walmart completes pullout of Neighborhood Market format from Connecticut

Let's be honest about all this: Walmart uses grocery as a loss leader to get you in the store so you shop on the GM side of things. When they took it one step further with stand alone units, things weren't so great. The only thing they could point to to justify the entire Neighborhood Market concept...

Re: Kmart quietly closing stores again

Add Dickson City, Pa. to the "quiet" list. Liquidation sale started just a few days ago and plans to be closed by sometime in July. I was there the day this one opened in November 1973-you couldn't get near the place.

If memory serves, that E. Stroudsburg, Pa. K-Mart was a former Grants location they took over almost immediately after they folded in 1976.

Re: Price Chopper abrputly closes several pharmacies

Why they don't just admit Market 32 isn't working out and pull the plug on the whole concept? They need to get back to what they know and do best: running good solid stores that serve their local communities well. It seems that virtually every chain at one time or another feels they have to become a...

Re: 7-Eleven to buy Stripes

At least where I live here in New York State, zip code key ins are the exception and not the rule. The only place I ever had to do that was Hess and now that they've become Speedway that practice has continued. And now that I think of it, interestingly enough I was in Ohio some years ago and purchas...

Re: JCPenney announces closures of 130-140 stores

In regards to the "funky P" logo, that was on a store at the Viewmont Mall in Scranton, Pa which was built around the same time as that store in the post above. That signage survived on the building until at least mid-1980 when we moved from the area. I also seem to recall a freestanding f...

Or perhaps a supermarket chain headquartered in Upstate NY that's reportedly on the block and was (supposedly) being looked at by Albertsons? You never know.
