Re: Ralphs Arcadia Closing, Asian market to take place?

All this seems rather unusual for Kroger. You sure they aren't ready to do something with Ralphs, like spin it off or divest it? I'm sure this isn't a reflection on Kroger's finances, but you never see a company continually close stores in a division unless they're in sort of financial trouble or ch...

Re: United to buy 7 stores from Lawrence Bros.

Turns out they've been doing some rolling conversions like ACME did with A&P. Some observations from all this... - The Clyde store reopened May 12th, thanks to info from the Chamber of Commerce . It looks like they added United's décor package to it, as that does seem to match the newer store in...

Re: Total count of closing Albertsons / Safeway stores

Concrete floors are hit and miss, to be honest. The H-E-B stores have all put concrete floors in new-build stores since at least the early 2000s, and it makes it impossible to renovate or do repairs without leaving hideous scars (then again, for stores with tile, the replacement tile never matches t...

Re: Save Mart converting 2 Nevada Stores to Food Maxx

They closed both the stores in Sparks and Carson City in late March. The Sparks Store still has a bank and pharmacy operating inside. The Carson City Store is currently closed entirely. Both stores are sitting as of today, with the lights all turned on, and all shelves and fixtures in place. There ...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers

I don't really see how Shoppers is facing "crucial times". Sure, it's market share has radically declined, but as long as SuperValu stays solvent and doesn't make indications that the rest of the non-NAI bunch will be divested, or store conditions aren't rapidly deteriorating, is it at the...

Re: Albertsons renovation in Fort Collins

Albertsons renovated the store in Fort Collins that they closed in 2014 also. King Soopers built a large marketplace right next to it. Not a good situation. King Soopers is building another marketplace soon near the other Albertsons in Fort Collins (on College Ave.). Safeway has a store that sits b...

Re: New Tom Thumb coming to Fort Worth!

Maybe the "new concept" is the same thing as they are doing in Florida. It is hard for me to tell who they are trying to target with features like hamburgers, professional and college sports clothing, homeopathic items in pharmacy, sushi, and fried chicken. Sort of feels like throwing dar...

Re: Integration of Albertsons and Safeway

Saw a coupon for Signature brand coffee at Randalls. It was $1 off but featured different bar codes if it was an Albertsons or Randalls. Even though they are on different systems, it should have more or less the same effect, right? As an aside, I've felt that the Signature brand roll-out wasn't done...

Re: Total count of closing Albertsons / Safeway stores

Missed the Pueblo store, I thought Denver had suffered another closure in 2016. It looks like they're more or less working through by division, first Southern (no problem there, seems like Safeway, Albertsons, and the divestments pretty much did the trick), ACME (sloughing off some weight from A&...
