Re: Vons Sells Silverlake/Los Feliz Location to Children's Hospital Los Angeles for $90 Million
Wow, that is some valuable real estate. Another example of Albertsons selling off real estate to raise cash. To be fair I can see how this is attractive because they can take that $90 million and go build 9 big brand new stores elsewhere with it. I wonder what the lease is going to be going forward...

Re: Grocery chains in your area
I'm relatively new to Phoenix and live downtown, so my observations skew towards the area south of Glendale, east of Seventh Avenue, and north of Broadway Road, but here goes: Sam's Club closed several stores. No loss for me, as I have a Costco membership. Folks at work don't seem to shop their, eit...

Re: Safeway remodel Tahoe City, CA 09/2018
Also this Tahoe City store has the traditional gold lifestyle decor and wall scheme above deli and liquor. Previous Safeway applications of lifestyle have that wall painted a dark red color. Also as previously noted the tile job behind the deli and seafood does not match the typical lifestyle schem...

Re: Shari's takes over Cocos and Carrows
Coco's menu is similar to Shari's but I'd say the photos are a touch better. The intermountain west and Colorado (along with a few locations in Or / Wa) are served by Village Inn. The pie at Shari's and Village inn feels the same to me. I wonder if it is the same frozen pie. Village Inn has the old...

Re: Supervalu to sell Shop 'n Save
The two Springfield, Illinois locations have Ocso pharmacies and interiors that resemble Colorful Lifestyle. One of them even has aisle signs that include street names. Here's a link. Springfield is a little confusing. Jewel Osco was there, but the 2 stores were briefly sold to Cerberus when Superv...

Re: Shari's takes over Cocos and Carrows
I had a friend who L-O-V-E-D Coco's. Every time we went out to diner we went there. While I found the food to be edible and even somewhat tasty, it was no more satisfying, but was more expensive, than a couple of Lean Cuisines. Nonetheless, there is a demographic for whom it is a fabulous restaurant...

Re: Marianos to consolidate with Roundy's; execs to depart
Biggest concern I have is seeing some real second-class Mariano's (especially acquired Dominick's), and a failure to understand the Chicago market. The second they start becoming regular Kroger stores in nice environments and good "bonuses", Mariano's is going to lose the edge it had. Thi...

Re: Marianos to consolidate with Roundy's; execs to depart
They'll probably spin it as part of their "restock Kroger" initiative to build the stores for the future... In all actuality, Kroger seems to have a lack of a strategic vision or leadership. They've made nothing but questionable move after questionable move over the past year or so (other...

Re: Marianos to consolidate with Roundy's; execs to depart
I am sure the Chicago-focused Jewel is very happy. But this is not the first rodeo for the long term Jewel people. They have seen this before... Maybe Kroger can consolidate Mariano's and Food 4 Less Chicago operations too. May as well get more synergy going. It would be much easier to drive 'em ou...
