Re: 2023 - Roth's Fresh Markets trying TV ads
This is a stretch. This is probably nothing more than a clueless exec thinking they needed to run a TV play. If they were really interested in a marketwide branding play, they would either rebrand their Chucks Produce stores in Vancouver or dual brand the ads. Chucks doesn't have a full grocery ass...

Re: Subway Considers Sale
Kroger has always struggled to run a custom sandwich program. Promising programs at Ralphs and QFC that should have been rolled out chainwide seem to have been partially scrapped over at Ralphs but still used at some stores and still used at QFC. This may alleviate their problems with that. Do any ...

Re: Safeway Portland- sectioning off high theft items/separate checkout
I went to the Pearl Safeway a few days before this story aired and saw the set up. It's about a quarter of the store space in these aisles. They have 2-3 heavily armed police wanna be security guards who are dressed to intimidate, who my guess either couldn't make the cut as a cop or need gym money ...

Re: 2023 - Roth's Fresh Markets trying TV ads
Roth's must think they will get divested stores out of Safeway/Kroger. This will be a bigger bomb than Haggen was. Roth's has lower quality products than Haggen at similarly high prices (maybe even higher now). Using Supervalu/UNFI as supplier. Same old story. There is zero synergy between Roth's C...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
This might be true for California, Oregon and Washington but not Arizona, Nevada and Colorado. In, at least those 3 states, the entirety of the Albertsons/Safeway operation would likely need to be divested as there is no threat of the bulldozer taking those stores. I fully expect the Albertsons/Saf...

Re: TransformCo (Sears/Kmart) 2023: Finally the end?
Probably because Costco purchased the Sears delivery and install business and rebranded it. Right now Costco online maybe the best deal for appliances. The prices aren't any lower but they include enough extras to make a difference.

Re: Cracker Barrel Is Struggling
They really should be doing better in their core areas, given the decline of Bob Evans, which has a similar menu and has a lot of geographic overlap. The cafeteria chains in the South, which tend to overlap in clientele and menu, also have steadily declined and should have offered another opportuni...

Re: Mcdonald's Drive Thru Of The Future
Having a drive up window devoted exclusively to mobile orders is necessary to get more people to use it. Nothing is more frustrating than ordering online and getting struck behind people ordering and paying at the window. If you go through the effort to order online, you should be rewarded with fas...

Re: Mcdonald's Drive Thru Of The Future
In theory having curbside spots for mobile orders should take care of this, but in practice this varies wildly from store to store. The app is set up in a way where they don't start preparing the order until you check in (which requires specifying a parking spot if you are ordering curbside or a ta...
