Pete's Fresh Markets in Chicago

In Chicago, "Jewel" is synonymous with "supermarket." However, the area also has a thriving independent grocery scene. The Chicago Tribune profiles one of them, woman-owned Pete's Fresh Markets. Here's a link to the article.

Re: Kroger closing Lake Charles, LA

There is a Jewel-Osco at the Harlem/Foster shopping center in Chicago that dates back to 1970. It was originally a Jewel-TurnStyle (TurnStyle was a discount department store much like today's Target) that replaced one that burned in 1969. The structure has not changed much since the TurnStyle close...

Re: Kroger closing Lake Charles, LA

This store is Kroger's last Family Center that is still open in the state. It's around 50 years old. Its time has come and gone; the neighborhood around it has declined. I wish that they'd rebuild, though, since this will leave only the new Kroger on the south side and the Suplhur store in this par...

Re: Kroger closing Lake Charles, LA

Probably not much of a surprise looking at the condition of the store... 12th Street Store... You aren't kidding! Reminds me of a few Ralphs stores in LA that ultimately closed. It always cracks me up when Kroger posts pictures of a palatial store and actual customers' pictures are quite different....

Re: What's left of Haggen

Just wondering what is the pricing at Pavillions? Is it much higher than Vons? My experience with Pavilions vs VONS is the prices are similar on similar items. The difference is Pavilions carries more upscale items and the items are priced accordingly. For example, if both VONS and Pavilions sell M...

Re: What's left of Haggen

Today I am in the Woodinville Haggen. Upon checkout the interface with the pin pad was different. It was the same machines that they have had, which is the same as Safeway/Albertsons. But the look and function was slightly different. I found out that they finally went onto the Safeway/Albertsons pl...

Re: Wild Cougar Shot Outside Macy's

Continuing the thread, I haven't heard about retail environments, but in the 1-mile Disneysphere here in Anaheim, there's plenty of Coyote sightings in the neighborhoods now, even my own. The reports are becoming more prevalent now, especially with the rise of internet-enabled doorbell cameras. Alt...

Re: Wild Cougar Shot Outside Macy's

A wild cougar was spotted outside the downtown Santa Rosa, California Macy's. It was shot with a tranquilizer dart and dragged away. They released it into the wild away from the city. There were wild fires in the area and wildlife has been driven closer and closer to urban areas. Have there been an...

Re: Walmart observations

My local Walmart has stopped restocking fish. The fish tanks are empty. Has this happened at any other Walmart? There was always demand for fish since Walmart was one of the cheapest places for fish. The fish looked not so great since there was so much death and neglect. ... I thought you were refe...
