Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
I'd love to see FTC insist what HCal proposes for SpinCo, and see if Kroger would go for it. That would at least enable SpinCo to operate long enough to figure out what to do with itself. I see SpinCo as an Albertsons LLC the 2nd (the one that went from 600+ stores to a low of 190 stores). I don’t ...

Re: Celebrations by Party City “Store within a store” at new Winn Dixie?
I've never seen this before. This reminds me of a long time ago when the office chains took over merchandising of office supply aisles in various grocers. I think Albertsons had Office Depot, Kroger had Staples, and Safeway had Office Max. Reminds me of Albertsons with their Toys R Us departments (...

Re: Kroger-Albertsons merger effects in San Diego County
The competition there is strong especially with Costco and their unusual magnitude of dominance being the founding city and headquarters of their predecessor Price Club. Under these suggestions they basically insert $25 Billion in the toilet bowl and hit flush because they wind up without buying an...

Kroger-Albertsons merger effects in San Diego County
In San Diego County, where I live, Kroger would have at least 34.2% market share assuming the merger is completed with no divests. If Food 4 Less is added, the market share would go up probably another 2%. https://www.axios.com/local/san-diego/2023/08/14/san-diego-costco-most-popular-grocery-stores ...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
Union is an issue. The divest of a union store needs to go to someone who will continue the union. This leaves a pretty narrow slate of potential buyers. And two of those potential buyers have a tract record of pharmacy closures among other issues. I am hoping we see this merger is canceled soon. T...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
I am not convinced this Market Street/United/Amigos operation is going to be merged into Kroger. I am curious if they can separate it the way they did El Rancho. I suspect United will be sold back to management and become a Topco member again, as it was before Albertsons (during the interim era) bo...

What is the private label situation with this chain? Old photos online show Best Yet products and some Parade products... At the present time they have stores that have Always Save/Best Choice items from AWG, but those items are presently on clearance at 50% off. They are then being replaced with (...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
I heard a rumor somewhere once the merger goes through the company will have a new name and it won't be Kroger (or Albertsons). So if they actually plan to change the company's name I'm not sure what reason there would be to go forward with the Kroger banner everywhere? I think they should rebrand ...

Re: San Clemente Albertsons converting to Pavilions
The best Albertsons decor I'm afraid doesn't exist anymore, the coastal decor they used in Corona Del Mar, Rancho Palos Verdes and Belmont Shore, locations that no longer exist (someone referred to these as Wegmans style decor, it appeared that they explicitly designed it for Corona Del Mar first a...
