Re: Midwest Territory Expansion
I live in Missouri, closer to St. Louis than Kansas City. I see Hy-Vee expanding more to fill in places in their existing footprint, and may eventually cover more of outstate Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Missouri. I do not see them entering St. Louis simply because Schnucks and to a greater ex...

Re: Hy-Vee: The "Haggen" of the Midwest?
Hy-Vee still operates lots of rural stores in Iowa and Northern Missouri. They've also added some in other towns here recently, experimenting with a format called "Hy-Vee Dollar Fresh" that has gone into closed ShopKo/Pamida locations in the last year or so. I've not been to one, but I app...

Re: Kroger closing: Nokomis, IL
It seems like the Kroger Central division, in my experience, keeps these small-town locations open as long as they can until it requires them to do some updating. They run these stores until the wheels fall off. Literally. There's only two Kroger Central locations left in Missouri, on the west side ...

Re: Closing Schnucks
The store they are closing is about one block away from an existing Schnucks (former Kroger, then National) and two additional Schnucks are less than two miles away. This SNS location was large, but kind of a dump. Not surprised it is getting closed. Schnucks bought Shop ‘N Save as a defensive move....

Re: Kroger "big announcement coming" on branding
Songs like this are used in commercials all of the time. I don’t see that it’s an issue. Honestly, I thought it was sort of catchy. To each their own, I guess.

Re: Retail design trends
I think every Dierberg’s store in the chain (St. Louis and Lake of the Ozarks) has terrazzo floors and they always look great.

Re: Schnucks Bettendorf IA closing
Sometimes Schnucks makes weird development decisions. They invested a lot into the Memphis market ten years ago and then just bailed on it and likely sold everything to Kroger at a loss, but getting Kroger to leave the Rockford, IL market in trade. I’m thinking that they expected to have better succ...

Maybe it’s been longer than I realize, but you used to find President’s Choice items at Hy-Vee. I am guessing maybe 7-8 years ago?

Re: Kroger divests interest in Lucky's Market
On Kroger’s corporate site, they have information detailing the states they have a presence in and what divisions cover which states. This map of their divisions is provided. Kind of interesting, they list Lucky’s as a division and have them shown for Florida. This is about the only time I’ve seen L...
